Manfrotto 055XPROB?

Looking to get a new tripod. This will be my first "real" tripod, as I've had a cheapo Velbon fluid head for the last year. I was just wondering if anyone had any experience with these legs and if anyone could share their experiences with it. I was also looking at the 701 and 501 head to put on these legs. The only thing that concerns me with the 501 is the large size compared to the 701. I also know it has some sort of friction feature? Can anyone tell me experiences with either of these and which one I should pick up to accompany these legs? Thanks M&A

I have the 701 and 055 and they work fine. I mean, they're not top level tripods but they work thousands of times better than shitty 40 dollar tripods. I'm happy with mine, I carry it on the ski strap of my backpack because I don't have a camera pack yet. I also leave the head on the tripod most of the time.

I'd recommend it as an entry into more in depth filming

pretty solid legs. I have the smaller 190 version and they've held up for almost 2 years now.

Sweet thanks for the reply. Yeah im not looking for anything top level, this is only my 2 year filming so im hoping this will last.

I don't know about the 701, but the 501 does just fine, I don't notice a difference between cold and hot temps.

Someones selling a 055 and 501 combo here on ns for $225 only. That would be a pretty sick deal.https://www.newschoolers.com/ns/forums/readthread/thread_id/718717/

i thought this too until my tripod literally froze last night. Went out to hit urban, grabbed my tripod out of the car and it was locker right up. Had to work it for like 10 minutes to pan up and down.

I've had mine out for about an hour in -10, just sitting there and it was fine, how cold was it for you?

i have the older version of the 501 and it definitely doesn't like the cold. maybe it's different in the new ones, just a heads up. it's not like i can't get it working but before i work it around a bit it's a little stiff.
