Mandela effect - first K2 twin tip

I have a memory from ~1999. At the same time or just prior to the original 1080, K2 had a twin tip with ‘pipe’ in the name, something like ‘pipe cleaner’ (I know, that’s an Armada but it was something similar). The ski was mostly white with a green streak.

I cannot find details of it anywhere. Is this my own Mandela effect? It was briefly mentioned in an Iberg podcast recently, but now I can’t find that again either.

Can someone help me find this ski and confirm I am not losing it.

K2 poacher was k2s first iirc, came out in 96 but they didn’t seem to catch on.

1080s came out the next year

Vishnu dropped The Ol' Thyme Wettington back in 1889. They were made out of Steel, Asbestos and featured a Liquid Mercury core. Skiers loved 'em and the children loved making 'em.

Mandela effect = Shitty memory

Hot take, damn bruh. Even you're trolling here is getting weak. The fact that all of the Pinkbike comment sections know your schtick and no longer engage must really be getting to you.

Poachers were black with gray stars originally, and then turned to a red fade. These were before that.

Damn homie, I got cross platform fans who are still dumb enough to engage. I made it!

Rossi made the pow air pros in the late 90s before the scratch, k2 made the piste pipe tele twin tips early 2000s

The first k2 enemy was black with grey stars like the evil knievel jacket. They brought back the poacher logo on one of their twins I think they called it the poacher it was that wood grain with the black and red whatever on em like the k2 el Camino

K2 contends that their original poacher beat the yellow tens to commercial availability, and they also claim that they won the race to twintips intended for park use in the process. I think they’re reaching, but maybe that’s the ski you’re thinking of. That was 1997. The enemy was released to the public for the ‘98/‘99 season and only underwent yearly cosmetic changes until the public enemy was released for ‘03/‘04.

Thanks to you and [tag=2034]@Casey[/tag]. It must be the poacher then. Now to track down some photos.

From Ryan Schmies (graphics for the whole Hell Bent line, Public Enemy, Seth's, etc) in another thread:

"Poacher was shown at SIA in 1997 and first sold in the fall of 1997. It had the 'retro' graphics just like the El Camino. Year two it was black and red and then it became the Pipeline. All white surfboard looking ski."

I was thinking of the Pipeline, here is a photo

It’s all good I even just learned about the pipeline from this thread just guessing maybe that’s like a modified mogul ski? The first poacher was like a concept it was so soft it was barely rideable by all accounts that I’ve heard. At about the same time you had Moseley and freestyle skiing going that direction too he won the Nagano games on the k2 winter heat, and I think they started making those with a small twin but maybe just prototype.

its crazy how little documentation there is of the ski industry pre internet/youtube. If the NS search bar actually worked it’d be like the national archive of freeskiing

I have an old pair of K2 factory test skis somewhere at my parents house. Someone gave them to my dad in like 2006 and they were like 4-5 years old at the time. Full camber and full tails, rounded at each end. The skis also aren't exactly identical, sidewall runs a little longer on one ski and the camber isn't the exact same iirc.

Certainly no disrespect to Schmies, who is without a doubt the single greatest contributor to ski art, but just want to make sure love is also thrown to the original Seth Pistol’s artist, Josh Maley (RIP).

true, but you can google site:newschoolers.com + search terms and that works super well. BUT even so, often in super old threads the pictures are no longer viewable cause they were hosted somewhere else or linked somewhere else and are long gone

I won a pair of these original K2 Enemy skis from 1999, on an insta comp.

Busted them out the other day for Treble Cones closing day and they honestly skied algood.
