Mandatory tricks for a good skier

What makes a good skier, a good skier? Like what tricks do they have on lock that makes them inherently good? Lip back 2’s are an obvious start, but elaborate more on a mandatory trick index for a “Good skier” my fellow angst ridden teens and chill 40 year old dads

I more meant park skiing, just kinda like corks or butters or other random shit Idk I don’t ski

You don't ski lol what

I can't ski park to save my life but it's satisfying to watch folks throw down. Even the basic stuff like butters and back/front flips and cork 360's always get people hyped. I've haven't seen any shitty skiers who can do any of those.

People spinning off rails is another milestone that seems to set folks apart to some degree.

I was kidding with the “idk I don’t ski” bit I thought it’d be funny lmao, but tru you got a point corkêd 3’s and backies are some hype tricks

Backflips require no skill if you already know how to do it on your feet.

That easy huh?

I mean that it doesn’t really require skills that have anything to do with skiing, it does require different skills but it doesn’t really matter how good of a skier you are. Mostly about commitment also. I’ve seen so many videos of complete beginners doing backflips of small kickers… If you don’t agree, you’re clearly not a very good skier

A good skier is more about attitude than skill. Good skiers keep the stoke up and always willing to progress.

I always belived that a good skier can ski everything very well. They can make heads turns in the park, carve turns until their waist starts to drag in the snow, huck airs, ski “no falling allowed” lines and climb mountains faster than taking the chairlift.

I think you can tell how good someone is without seeing them throw down. When a dude holds a certain presence in the park and gets eyes on him every time he approach’s a feature you know people are looking to see some good skiing. It’s hard to put into words but if you pull up to a mountain there’s always one or a few guys that really have that defined “presence” and stick out for some reason. Back to the question tho you can tell when someone is more comfortable and flows through the park better and I think that’s what makes them a good skier. I almost wanna say a steezy 2 out makes you a better skier than an ugly as shit 4 out. Ik that technically is wrong but I honestly stand by that

If you can at least float a big 3 (gotta be able to do 3 or more grabs too) over a 40+ foot jump and don't look like complete ass on rails, then in my book you are "good" in the park. You can replace the 360 with a back flip etc. Just need one "cool" trick for photos ya know?

Have you actually tried to learn a backflip?

I worked on a backflip one year, never could commit to it, have some pretzels pretty on lock though. I can frontflip, certainly cant backflip. I can do lincolns and flats, but fuck backflips. Too scary.

IMO there is a screw loose in people who have backflips on lock, and I am so jealous.

Air awareness comes better with some people more than others, I’ve definitely seen some more beginner skiers be able to get upside down just because they know what’s going on when something happens in the air

good park skiers must have nat and unatty rail slides on lock. lip ons sw ons ect.. b2, f2. 3s 5s and really comfortable on big jumps and just have their own style.

this is exactly what it was like watching keegan kilbride ski at the loaf before he moved out west. that dude was always throwing down super casually

This is the vibe

lots of people talking about backies but I know plenty of shit skiers who can backflip. It really comes down to rail style and big zero spins.

So you’re scared? It’s not the backflip that’s hard but the commitment?

Thank you

I think it comes down to good skiers to look comfortable skiing anything and be able to do more than the minimum. What I mean by this is they need to do something entertaining no matter the terrain. All mountain that means being able to send some airs, hit cliffs and maybe 3 or backie. In the park it means being able to link tricks between features without having to revert between switch and regular and cruise through it.

an easier answer is to judge someones skiing ability through how they walk in ski boots

Here’s the unofficial list:

- corks

-the switch

-taking a drag off a cig mid rail slide

- tweaking your grabs

- wet with the phone clips

- going upside down

- jibbing things that were not made to be jibbed

- gaslighting a ski patroler when you’re obviously in the wrong

- unnatty grinds/ spins

- getting the spliff lit on a windy day

if you can do any of these you’re probably a pretty seasoned skier and cool.

I’m holding you to every single one of these.

Just looking comfortable doing what they are doing. Confident style but relaxed. You can tell by someone just hitting a rail or a jump, even though it’s just a railslide or a straight air
