Mandatory read: how to save peoples lives

This is something I wrote to UnofficialNetworks.com, but I think it applies to everyone on here as well.

Read this shit. It saves lives.

Hi guys,

I'd like to thank you. You, indirectly, saved someones life today. Let me explain.

I read this article recently:

http://unofficialnetworks.com/drowning-drowning-important-read-summer-98693/

On my way home from taking an exam (which I completely blew, but who gives a fuck), I all of a sudden heard splashes. I looked around and then saw an elderly man (he must have been about 75) in the water. He wasn't asking for help and I yelled 'Sir, are you ok?' - of course I didn't get an answer.

Then I remembered your article: the man was drowning! He was just gasping for breath, unable to speak. He was fully clothed and submerging all the time, getting in a lot of water. I hurried to the water and managed to get the poor man to the side and out of the water. For at least three minutes he wasn't able to say anything: that's how out of breath he was. He was completely confused and he had no idea how he ended up in the water. Luckily we were near a hospital and that's where I took him. I'm going to call the hospital now and see how he is doing.

Thanks for the article. Maybe it's an idea to repost it. Seeing how it already saved one persons life within five days of posting this, I advise everyone to read this article.

If nobody would've walked by within a minute or two, he for sure would have drowned. Your article helped me make the right decisions much faster. Thanks.

Regards, a Dutch university student

Pretty amazing, good job! I read that article a while ago too and its pretty scary. Do you think you would have noticed if you hadn't read the article?

Well, seeing someone in the water, you don't think about why he wouldn't be there. Only then it dawned on me he probably didn't have any business in the water; that's when I took action.

The article for sure saved very precious time - without it I would've even maybe walked passed. He couldn't have gotten out himself and if I was a minute late, he could've died for sure - that's how close it was.

Good for you dude! Maybe that old man will return the favor and start a chain event of kind doings (Probably not)

But that article is definitely something good to know. Thank you for that.

was going to make some funny joke but then i read the article...

i recently got my Lifeguarding certification and this is one of the things they teach you. everything in that article is true and could possibly lead to lives being saved. in fact, when someone is drowning, over 60 percent of the time they have the strength and ability to save themselves. HOWEVER, your body goes into overdrive when it realizes that you are drowning, and your arms and legs push up for air as opposed to normal swimming motions, therefore making the drowning even worse. thats why it's important to stay calm if you feel yourself losing strength. i have never been drowning so i have no clue if it is even possible to override the human instinct to go upwards for air, but if someone can recognize it, then thats even better.

good read homie.

That's a made up statistic 60% I didn't read te article and I'm not going to but as a life guard for 7 years and an emt or one I'm going to say never get in the water to save someone of you don't have a flotation device they will pull you under to try and save them selfs.

thanks for the article!

i actually went to the beach today and will be heading back this weekend, i'll know what to look for and be able to help if i'm able to
