Mandatory helmets ?

The 10/12/15mph thing is nonsense and irrelevant.

Think about glancing blows, where you are skiing, take a fall and start sliding, in your slide your head strikes a rock, not a direct impact but a sliding blow as you go over it.

A helmet is a _HUGE_ benefit here and the speed at which you are sliding is not relevant since it is not a direct impact.

I'm sick and tired of people using that garbage argument against wearing helmets. If you don't like wearing them because you don't think they look cool that is your decision but just say that, don't try to spew crap about them being ineffective it's not true.

this seems about as dumb as arguing against wearing a helmet when mountain biking. i could say that well most of the time i dont crash, and when i do it only peels some skin off my face. oh and when im flying down the mountain and i hit a tree there is no garuntee that the fullface will help at all so fuck it. im pretty sure that the many scientists who design these things dont do it for the fun of it. i think mandatory helmets will happen strictly from a pain in the ass for the resorts point of view

The worst is stupid crappy park only skiiers who refuse to wear helmets because they see T-Hall wearing crocheted hats in movies and want to look the same, then splatter off a 60 footer because they suck and never learened to ski/jump properly and it becomes a liability issue for the resort. All top level terrain parks should be mandatory safety video/helmet/pass like Whistler. It should be a choice for the rest of the mountain since it doesn't raise liability as skiing is assumed to be a risky activity.

eh, i dont really like em only wear mine, occasionally i do though depends on what im working on, freedom of choice

^ i have the same helmet and its dope. And for those of you that say helemtss dont help, take your head , first with a helmet on, and smak it against a rail. Not really hard or anything, but try to get it at about the speed as if you were standing on the rail and fell. Now do the same thing without a helmet, see which one cracks ur head open.

i like my helmet...thats why i wear one... but i tihnk that if you dont wanna or you dont think its necessary at the time, thats chill too. but if you are doing somthing crazy, a helmet could def not hurt.

i've been knocked out while wearing a helmet skiing, and knocked out while not wearing a helmet skiing. just thought i'd throw that out there.

but regardless, i own two helmets, and wear them pretty much whenever i ski, except for my urban adventures.

i bet youd look really good in that crocheted hat when your a drooling vegetable saying stuff like "wheres my baseball?"

thats why ski areas have the signs at the entrance of the park "ski and board at your own risk". I think it should be left up the the skier, if they wanna wear one fine if not thats fine too.

First off, I do wear a helmet sometimes, and I'm not at all against them, but....

(I've said this before) Even if you wear a seatbelt all the time, you are in way more danger of dying from a head injury in a car accident than you are when skiing, so if you believe in MANDATORY helmet laws for skiing, then you also better strap on that full-face every time you get in a car.

^people who drive for a living do wear full face helmets while driving, so i dont see your point. Why not reduce your risks. It's like arguing that it's stupid to wear a condom because your more likely to die in a car crash then catch an STD.

you have probably been quoted before, but i will quote you again:

where are you getting this info?

OF COURSE YOU WILL COMPRESS YOUR SPINE IF YOU LAND ON YOUR SKULL STRAIGHT DOWN.

and yes, hitting your face on a surface will make your head snap back. helmets DO NOT increase this risk. at least, not by enough to nullify the fact that they save more ligves than any device on the snow.

I'm not saying it's stupid to wear a helmet. I think it is a good idea to wear one. It would also be a good idea to wear one every time you get in a car, just ask the thousands of people with head injuries from car accidents. I'm just saying that a "mandatory" helmet rule would be just as appropriate for being in a car as it is for skiing.

Do you wear a helmet in a car? If not, then why, do you think you are in no danger of getting a head injury?

I'm not arguing against helmets, just trying to put "mandatory helmet laws" in perspective.

i dont think i mandantory helmet rule would work for every one, ist sjust like a deat belt it you dont want to wear one, but its a good idea. I know my helmets daved me a few times and i was definatly going faster than 12 mph

some days wen i feel like i wanna do a lot of new tricks, ill wear a helmet

but most of the time i wear it even wen i dont, because my friend got a concussion and he didnt have one
