Man Dies from 3-Day Internet Gaming Binge

BEIJING, China -- A man in southern China appears to have died of exhaustion after a three-day Internet gaming binge, state media said Monday.

The 30-year-old man fainted at a cyber cafe in the city of Guangzhou

Saturday afternoon after he had been playing games online for three

days, the Beijing News reported.

Paramedics tried to revive him but failed and he was declared dead at

the cafe, it said. The paper said that he may have died from exhaustion

brought on by too many hours on the Internet.

The report did not say what the man, whose name was not given, was playing.

The report said that about 100 other Web surfers "left the cafe in fear after witnessing the man's death."

China has 140 million Internet users, second only to the U.S.. It is

one of the world's biggest markets for online games, with tens of

millions of players, many of whom hunker down for hours in front of PCs

in public Internet cafes.

Several cities have clinics to treat

what psychiatrists have dubbed "Internet addiction" in users, many of

them children and teenagers, who play online games or surf the Web for

days at a time.

how the hell do you die of exhaustion exhaustion? wouldn't most people just fall asleep and not pass out?

i guess they should just ban all online computer games.
 
it's a good thing most of us on this site are forced to go to school or get a job to pay for skiing. otherwise we all might just sit here and die.
 
Whenever your death has something to do with a video game, you can pretty much expect that people are going to laugh at it mercilessly. With that in mind,

Not the first time it's happened. At least his soul will live on in the game in the form of a few kb of information. Prob didn't have much of a human soul afterall.
 
Yeah I recall a year or two ago this happening in Korea? somewhere in Asia. Fuckin' nutty ass orientals.
 
is this a new story because i remember this happening like a few years ago in asia as well.... he was in a cafe too, weird.. i guess they should have like a limit
 
i bet he was playing a game that was so Asian, none of us here can even imagine it... it's kinda like the rainbow track in mario cart 64, but with cats with huge eyes and schoolgirls in short skirts and some ninjas... all anime. the schoolgirls have him a heart attack.
 
a kid died just like that on CSI:Miami once. it was the episode where the college kids were reenacting a GTA-esque game by knocking off banks and raping/pillaging, murdering and keeping score just like the game did. the kid at the head of the operation played for like 80 hours downing energy drinks and pissing in bottles at his desk and then just bit it.
