Man Died At My Hill Today.

Someone died at my hill today. They were skiing in the backcountry down this mountain that is completely visible from the hill. This is a really sketchy crazy line which is pretty much one of those you fall you die lines. When he dropped in he got only about one or two turns when he caught his ski in the snow and started flipping head over heals. About half way down the line there is a 70 degree slope of rock and cliff that goes for about 300 hundred feet. He was not able to stop falling before he when over onto these rocks. He flipped head over heals all the way down the rocks. By the time the patrollers got there his pulse had already stopped and they performed CPR on him for quite a while. They also called in a helecopter who was doing air drops of people with equipment and such. They were too late; he died. The guy was in is late-twenties about, and his wife had just given birth to their first child.

and he just had a baby and got married and he was 34....he was a big part of freeride entertainment(they make New World Disorder...for thoose who didnt kno)...he was a good guya nd liked by everyone and he we will be greatly missed by his friends, family, colleaugues, and every one who meet him...he was a great man

i rode up with a ski patrol guy one time and he was telling me some horror stories about deaths on the hill, he had some really graphic stories. it scared me.
 
That's absolutely horrible. How involved was he w/ Freeride Entertainment? Wow, I his family must be in such shock right now....

Not to sound like an ass or anything though, but what kind of new father goes and does death defying stunts? You have to have a screw or two missing to pull something like that when you just had a newborn.
 
It was not a death defying feat, it was a line. It was a 45-50 degree face that does get skied quite frequently when the conditions are right. He just caught a bad break that would rarely happen to him, catching an edge.

Ok, thanks for the correction. From the description, it sounded like some crazy ass line. Either way, i was exadurating the "death defying" part to get my point across.
 
That sucks to hear, I almost did that shit about two weeks ago but out of the grace of the snowgods I stopped tumbling right before a big drop of rocks n crust in wolverine cirque. Skiing big mountain is dangerous and rewarding, one mistake can cost you your life, its a heavy price to pay for doing something you love.

last friday i think, some guy had a heart attack on the lift, he was riding up with some guy who had a cell phone, so the guy with the cell phone called down and they sent a doctor up to the top of the lift ( the longest lift at our mountain ) but he died at the top.
 
then you have things like this that happen at your mtn, and it makes you say wow

EVERETT, Wash. – Two very unusual coincidences saved the life of a Mukilteo man who had a heart attack at Stevens Pass ski area.

On Jan. 14, Kim Kaiser and his daughter had just arrived at the mountain ready to tackle the slopes.

He had just bought his lift ticket when he collapsed.

Kaiser, 48, who had no history of heart trouble, was having a massive heart attack. The ski patrol responded with medical aid.

He would have been airlifted to a hospital but visibility was too poor that day for helicopters to fly safely.

That's when it seems fate stepped in - in a miraculous way.

"What are the odds of a cardiac surgeon just strolling by?"said Dr. Frank Nieto. “I mean, there aren't very many of us in this state."

Nieto was at the ticket booth too, and was quickly able to administer life-saving drugs.

At the same time, members of the ski patrol shocked Kaiser’s heart and radioed for the doctor on call. He ust happened to be Dr. Stephen Dahlberg with the Everett Clinic.

"As I looked at him I realized -- I know this guy and I looked at him for a second and realized: not only do i know this guy but he's my patient," Dr. Dahlberg said.

So Kaiser’s own doctor was on the mountain helping to get his heart beating again. It turned out he had a severe blockage, referred to as the "widow maker."

Doctors say having an attack like that on a ski slope generally has a survival rate of about one percent.

But for Kaiser it was the best place to be!

"He was at the right place at the right time,” Dr. Nieto said. “If it had occurred anywhere else I'm sure he would have died."

"I feel great, borderline perfect," Kaiser said.

"He was really lucky,” Dr. Nieto said. “I told him he ought to go to Las Vegas.

"Well, I'm not a gambling person but I do have the best luck," Kaiser said.
 
That's weird, I didn't hear about that. Anyways, that really sucks about the Freeride Entertainment guy... prayers go out to him and his family.
