Next season I'm finding a new ski town to live in for a while and was thinking about mammoth. I was wondering if rent is fairly decent around mammoth lakes. I like using craigslist to find a spots but I couldn't seem to find anything in mammoth. Is there affordable housing or roomshares that can be found online anywhere that anyone knows about?

Rent isn't too rough here - if you can get a group of friends together who won't flake it can be pretty feasible. There is also always employee housing which is around $500/mo but obviously you have to get a job with the mountain.
 
thread jack, but i was wondering if anyone could help me real quick.
im going down to mammoth over spring break with my family and i was wondering where the best, closest place to stay near the mountain is. should we get a hotel or condo?

If you are looking for truly closest and best place to stay near the mountain, I would say go with the Mammoth Mountain owned lodging. It can be kinda pricey but it looks soooo nice. Plus you can just walk outside to the lifts: http://www.mammothmountain.com/Lodging/MammothMountainInn/

Everything in mammoth is really close to the resort however. Even the cheapest places are only like 10 min away and the free bus will get you to the mountain in this ammount of time if you don't have a car. If you are looking for a good deal, the motel six is in a great location and is probably the lowest prices in mammoth.
