Mammoth spring conditions

I am thinking of coming out to Mammoth in April. I'm a teacher and I have a week off of work for Easter/Spring Break, and I would really like to try to get out West again this year. What are the conditions like there in the middle of April? What shape is the park typically in? I know a lot of places out West are hurting for snow. Is it the same for you guys? Just let me know so I can try to figure something out. Thanks a lot.

That's when I go to Mammoth and it is always Awesome! Park seems very good to me, the snow is nice and the whole mountain is still open.

what is the best way of getting there? How far is the drive from LAX? I see on the website that they have a plane that will fly from LAX to a place near Mammoth. Any word on that?

If you book in advance its $79 each way from LAX to Mammoth.
April is quite lovely, 60/70 degrees every day and sunny. We have a 10 to 15 foot base right now with more on the way, I am pretty sure there will be plenty of snow left.

Damn, I might be in Mammoth either in March or May. I can get super cheap tickets to Vegas ($19-79 depending on the day) How bad is the drive from Vegas? Would I be better to go into LAX. I am coming from Montana BTW...

Last season was pretty horrible in mid April, bare patches, shitty snow. But the last like 3 years I went before that its been snowing a lot while I was up there, with seriously epic conditions.

I'll probably be in mammoth the 22nd to the 30th. Spring conditions are a gamble, but hey, if its warm and slushy, at least the park will be fun

the top of mammoth is 11000 feet so it's usually nice snow up high. we've gotten 100 inch aprils before so bring your fat skis. last year we got almost 2 feet the day they were going to close, in june. word around town is that mammoth is going to stay open this year till the snow is gone gone.

Spring can be incredibly sick out here. With the snowfall we have seen this year, I imagine we'll have plenty of snow when you arrive. We did just get a foot or more all over the mountain over the weekend.

If anyone plans to fly here, fly to LAX then get a horizon flight from LAX to Mammoth. There is a shuttle that picks you up at the airport and drives you the 5 miles into town. Not bad. You really do not need a car in town.

You can also fly to Reno and get a car and drive the remaining 3 hours to Mammoth. It's a nice mellow drive and it's really a scenic trip.

I am unsure of any spring pass this year. They might not be doing one as they are really pushing the return of the MVP pass this year. Tandan83 would no more on that.

And yes, keep an eye on the weather as pow skis could always be needed. Those late springs storms have been known to dump hard in the past.
