Making your own skis

i have been looking up alot of info on building skis maybe as a hobby to use them and make them does anyone know anything about it or think its a sick idea i mean i feel like i would have hundreds of custom skis for myself and all different stiffness weight and whatnot and not have to pay 300+ a pair of skis

Woo! Thanks for linking me up Jake and Shindler. Ha, already have you guys at 10/10 though...

Anyways, yeah Pro@Skiing. Super rewarding in the end and with some thought and careful planning you can build just about whatever you want. Cost wise compared to a factory ski I'm in only about 200 for a pair of skis and I have quite a bit of room to cut that down. I was pretty wasteful on my first pair as far as material use went.

The whole project cost quite a bit more than a pair of skis though, ha I'm not super ready to talk loads of numbers in the forums about the entire financials behind it though. The biggest expense though will be you ski press or vacuum bag setup. Ski presses typically being more expensive but capable of building better skis, and vacuum bags costing less but building a lower quality of a ski. Loads of guys using vacuum bags though that do an amazing job, you don't need a ski press to build nice skis.

As far as some reading and recourses go, this is a good place to get a general idea of what it takes:

Then this is a massive resourse with loads of ideas on the topic, also a great place to ask questions:

Then there is my thread which has already been linked, but that's more of my personal experience building skis. Then a lot of people also wonder about materials and supplies, so heres a few links to that to; although I don't suggest ordering anything until you have the equipment in place to build a pair:

Hope that helps and feel free to drop me a PM anytime. Good luck man, would be stoked to see more builders pop up on NS!
