Making Twins

Since I dont want to wreck my new 1080s, I'm going to get some old straight skis and torch the ends to make twin tips, for rails. Do you torch the top of the ski or the base? I thought the top because you dontwant to wreck the base and p-tex. Whos done it before?

I don't know man, but if you just want them for rails in the city I wouldn't bother, you don't need them to be twins for that. Most old skis have enough of a tail that you can land switch anyway, or at least rail to fakie on them.

i did it and i just stuck them between the board of my deck one broke the other worked. i used an iron to heat em.

If your attack is going well, then it's an ambush..

heat guns woek well if you have one, just keep moving it so you don't cause the base to bubble. i've heard about sticking the tips in boiling water, sounds like a good idea try it and tell us how it goes. and then if you have a clamp or vise stick em in it and let it harden at more of an angle than you want cuz it'll bend bqack a little. and then rivet the tails so they don't split apart. good luck

boiling water doesnt work to well, i tried it and it doesnt get hot enough. i ended up delaming the back of the skis.

I just wanna ski, is that to much to ask in life

does it work with a foam core? or does it have to be wood?

man, u dont have to use twins to do rails or to land fakie i used my old skis this year for my rail cuz i got new ones, and the old ones work just fine... i would say just use the crappy ones as they are. they'll b fine

TRY EVERYTHING EVEN IF IT MEANS, KICKING YOUR OWN ASS

yea but I wanna make some twins for some pre season jibbing around town.. how am I gonna make them eh? huh? huh?

I know that you dont relaly need twins to do rails but since I'd be wrecking the skis anyways, I thought I may as well try out making my own twin tips for future knowledge.

-Randy

You don't need twins for rails, or pre season jibbing. Unless you are hucking some zerospin cliffs, or buildings, you are gonna be fine with the straight up old sticks. Don't fuck around with skis, you're just gonna break em.

i just made two pairs with IronX19 (Erich). the first pair turn out ok but one of the tips is starting to delam now. however the pair we made today turned out awesome, we sanded both pairs then boiled them for ten minutes, then bent them with a 2x4. we painted the first pair chrome and the second pair gold. they work wicked good on the rail in my backyard.

thanks

Teneighty's only suck cause you don't have them....

if you can get em hot enough....try sticking them under a dooor and apply pressure to bend em

'i jerk off so much that when i have sex with my girlfriend i feel like im cheating on my dick'

im a hobum!

ok heres what you do to make twin tips... take some wd-40, and spray the whole ski down in it, remember to use alot. Then light them on fire. the next step is throw them as far as u can in the sky, try to through them where the landing is very hard, and they will break!

boiling water worked for my friend. and we used a little iron on mine and they work fine. we heated the top and bottom and put them in a vice to bend em

Sleep is overrated. But i do it all the time anyways cause im a fucking poser.

Don't forget to honk when you drive by Vern Fonk!!!!

blow torch the edges and whe their hot enough to bend put them in a vice and bend them then use something to hold the into position after their cooled down take them out and if they are delaminated use epoxy between the laminate and they'll be perfect

Ive done this many times, even to a pair of badass X-screams (i know, im dumb)Ive done it to about 5 pairs of skis with moderate success:

1. I used a blowtorch, so you have to be careful with it b/c it applies a shitload of heat. Start by clamping down the ski on a table outside or something. Obviously, have the tip your blowtorching hangoing off the end. You want to heat the ski on both sides, alot of times the top sheet will bubble little, its something youll have to live with. Try to heat the metal edges the most, as thats the main part that keeps the ski from bending up oin its own.

2. While applying adequite heat to bopth sides and the edges, ake a pair(or two, if a freind is helping) of channel locks or loicking pliers and apply pressure slowly bending the tail up. Keep blowtorching the ski while doing this. Be careful, dont let the ski split b/c you didnt heat it up enough before you started bending it.

3. Once you think youve bent the tail up as far as you need it(your judgement), quickly take the ski off teh table and dip the tail in some near snow, or a bucket of cold water, something that will flash freeze the matel so it doesnt bend back to the original shape.

4. Let ski cool for about 1/2 hour in the snow.

5. This is optional, but will help your ski from delaminating in the future, I drill 2 tiny holes in each tail of the ski accros from each other. Then find some sort of bolts that have a rounded head, so that itll be flush with the bottom of the ski. Put the bolt in the ski with the nut on the top of the ski.

6. Repeat for the other ski

this has worked for me on both, wood and foam based skis, although it holds up much better on wood skis. I recomen doing this only to skis you wont mind letting get destroyed, this usually only holds up for about 1/2 a season before some sort of delamination occurs, but my X-screams went thru a whiole season pretty well, so Good luck! ITs not as hard as it may seem, and dont let people tell ya what to do with YOUR skis, i may not like 1080s, but damn their expensive, i wouldnt want to ruin them early that way.
