making the switch to apple

i've been contemplating switching over to apple for awhile now. im just getting fed up with corporate america, and microsoft just wants to take over the world, so i think its time to try someting new. anybody have some good advice about the topic or resons for APPLE VS. MICROSOFT?

 
Have you thought about Linux... i have RedHat linux and i like it very much.. Id say, look into MAC software.. I think you will run into some issues becuaes they software available is much less than with Windows.. Linux on the other hand, 99% of hte software is completely free. What are your reasons for switching?

I wouldnt go mac, while they may be touting the only 64 bit processor its not better than pc. however linux is a valid option. if you are considering a mac than you are obviously not a big gamer so linux would work for you. or you could always go really off the wall and get a mac and put linux on the mac!!!

i havent been playing to many games lately. all i really use the comp for is music and i want to start to get into digital images. i havent really looked at lynic yet but i will have to check it out

 
dont get me started. im not gonna go and list everything that is wrong with macs cause ive been through this argument 1 too many times. bottom line is there is nothing you can do on a mac that you cant do on a PC besides pay more and have 1 mouse button. mac targets the dumb side of america. ppl who think they can pay more for somthn easier to use. only reason it would be easier is because there arent the options u get with a pc. just think before u make a mistake.

 
dude if your just going to download music and go on newschoolers i would get a Sony vaio or something. Let Microsoft take over the world, who cares. Macs are expensive and only good if you want to like make movies on them or do some shit like that. Or if you want to be like Mini me and Yao Ming, then buy a Mac.

No, dont get a mac man. For what you plan on using it for, id stick with a PC. If you are THAT fed up with Microsoft, then go the Linux route. You can download the whole operating system free (legally) online. Check out this site for some information abuot it..

i made the switch this winter...and although it may be inconvient to check to see if everything you buy is Mac compatible, it is def. worth it...im buying Final Cut Express later this summer...anyways most colleges are using macs with their music and video editing programs and some have all macs on campus...i'll never go back to windows

i dont have a single problem with macs except they are too expensive.

if someone gave me one if try it but as it stands now ill take my PC thank you.

Go apple, there a ton more reliable, and they are starting to get more compatible with a lot of software that was previously only made for PC. Everyone who works with multimedia content uses an apple. Most of the major ski movies are edited in final cut pro. There simply better for that kinda thing. If your into gaming, dont get one, but for most everything else, a mac can easily compete with a PC

yeah i havent played many games latley. due to the lack of time on my hands. i mostley use the comp for internet, a lot of music, and i want to get into digial imaging. whats the best way to start learning how to format and do all that shit with digital?

 
i dont know what you guys see that i don't. i used macs a lot lately, i stayed at my friends house for a week and used it quite a bit. please explain. it was a new imac with osx and it was still gay. i just dont like the layout. and it crashed on me once, xp has never crashed, and i do so much shit on it like premiere, photoshop, and 3dsmax at the same time. i guess it depends on how well u know the operating system. a lot of ppl look at my comp and say how did u do that, thats awsome. if there was a problem with my computer i could fix it easy, if theres a prob with a mac id be lost, it doesn't have dos or anything. i have my reasons to stay windows, and i guess u have your reasons for mac. ive heard many ppl arguing they are better but haven't heard one reason why yet.

 
i agree that limewire is ok- but i wouldnt compare it to kazaa, iots not really a boased opinion either- i ve only used a pc for like 4 years and i grew up using a mac- i still use a mac all the timebut i still think that kazaa lite kicks limewires ass for all applications to download

i like my PC. XP kicks ass. It hasnt crashed ever. Its fast and it can do tons of stuff. I used to have an Apple IIE. It was badass in its day. In school we used to have some old macs. I liked them.

Exactly, and for whoever's saying 'I dont like the layout'; the first time I used a PC I didnt know what was going on either. Take some time to actually look around and you will appreciate the interface more and more.

And freezy has great points. Modern rumours put macs down and make them seem uncomparible to PC's, which is very untrue. Macs can easily compare to PC's, if not beat them in many categories.

I'd make the switch to a mac if I had any money whatsoever. It runs Photoshop faster than a P4 processor will. Actually, Pentium 3 runs Photoshop faster than a P4 too. Photoshop was designed for Mac Comps so for the guy asking about digital imaging, I say go for the mac.

if you love XP so much why dont you install virtual pc so you can run XP on your mac?

have you guys ever used virtual pc? i swear they program it to crash. and its slow as hell. i cant live without counter-strike. believe me im not a mac hater, i hope they do better, if fact they are getting better and soon they will catch up to pcs, but IMO they haven't yet. and about what someone said about the mac proccesor being faster and carrying more volume. look at the facts, a p4 has a higher processor speed and a higher bus speed than a G4. I;m not sure about the G5, but im sure a Xeon would beat it out. and dont say anything about dual processors, a lot of mac users say they rule for that, Xeons can be dualed. a dual 3ghz is just amazing. total output would be 6 ghz with over a 1.5 ghz bus speed.

Freezy you are my new hero, macs are the shit, not only have i had my old imac for 5 years it never crashed on me, not once..... also, with all the new macs you get cutting edge software, with awesome games. My one complaint with my mac was iphoto, it seems useless to me, and i was wondering if anyone could please tell me its purpose?

i use to have kazaa but got red of it b/c of spyware not my comp is infested with popups (about 3 a minute). ive cleaned my temp folder, and history but they still keep coming back. ive got popup killer but not all are stopped by it and some good popups are stopped. is there anyway to get rid of them intierly?

I'm not a computer nerd. I know nothing about computers. I bought a Mac for audio engineering (Pro Tools, etc.) It's a genious OS, so handy for idiots like me. Got it in January, hasn't crashed once. Super reliable and the iBook is so portable, light and sturdy. I'm a Mac buyer for life!

they cheated on those tests, face it. if you optimize your operating system then its cheating. what you actually get from a mac is different then those tests. they decieved u and lied to get higher speeds. only reason they got faster speeds. the pcs did honest tests using the OS that you can buy off the shelf, not some unrelesed shit.

 
You are a moron. THere has been no proven fact that Mac cheated on those tests, and you haven't provided any evidence that says that intel didn't cheat on their benchmarks when doing them. And about the dual processors, on a PC duals are worthless because no programs are made to take advantage of them. However, on a Mac all the software is made specifically to run well on a dual processor so that it actually helps. And you are wrong about the PC's having more bus. The G5 has a GHz frontside bus compared to 800 MHz on the latest PC processor.

 
i have always used a pc and i like them a lot. I know them well can upgrade my hardware easily and can actaully afford things for them. I also like apple but it just doesnt suit my needs, i like playing online games and mac doesnt exactly have a large amount of players and it takes forever for new games to be ported to mac and all the software and hardware is to expensive for me and the only way to get anything mac where i live is to order it online. I like pc's more, and if you dont like windows then try mandrake it is the shit.

yeah ive got xp right now and all it does is junk up. maybe its just the way i use my comp but i have to defragment the thing almost once a day

virtual pc is great because in runs windows programs with macs...plus macs and just reliable..the people in the store kick ass and have no problem answering questions...once i get final cut pro i'll be all set!

Virtual PC's really suck though. Mainly because first its like running 2 OS so it takes up a lot of space and the windows stuff doesnt take full advantage of the Mac setup.
