Making skis

Do any of you make your own skis? Is it worth it? What should I know if I am thinking about getting into making skis?

Making skis is going to be a lot more difficult than you are thinking. You are going to get a lot of hate on this thread so be prepared. All nice skis have layers of high performance material such as fiberglass, carbon fiber, layers of wood. Plus you need metal edges and machines that are capable of pressing and cutting all of this stuff.

I looked into making skis in 5th grade with 2 friends we had designs and names and a place to do it we just needed time and materials we looked into cost and there is a lot of variety in price but making a pair of skis costs about 150 to 250 so but then i figured I wouldn't have the time i have to be an athlete in the industry or a manufacturer in it so

I've read a ton of threads on here about making your own skis, and they all go exactly the same way -- "it's much more difficult than you think" and "it's not worth it unless you're going to invest all the time and money into it"

BUT THEN I SEE SHIT LIKE THIS AND I SAY FUCK ALL THOSE PEOPLE. A HUNDRED BUCKS!

FUCKING DO IT!

Are you going to make a pair of skis better than anything you can buy in a shop? No way.

Are you going to have fun and learn something about skiing and building shit? Fuck yea you are.

So you break it in one day, who cares? Once you have your press made, each pair is significantly easier to make. MAKE ANOTHER ONE!

That being said, I've never done it.

I'd say if you're gonna make a pair of skis, don't make a standard design that has probably been done. Go and do some bat shit crazy idea that people would look at and say, "what the fuck?" because who knows… you could create the next big thing in skis.

Yeah no. First pair keep it simple. First pair is hard mostly because you need to find all the places to get the stuff needed to make skis.

I made 2 pairs haven't had time to make any others yet. It does take a lot of time you will fuck up here and there. And for whoever said you will never be able to make skis good enough as a real companie, / check out skibuilders some of those guys on there make amazing skis that are on par with companie made skis.
