Making skis?

Anyone here know what it costs to make skis? So many new companies have come out like armada, 4frnt, ninthward, etc etc anyone know how they do it? Do they get contracts with the big companies, or something?

 
i saw something on making snowboard last night and it seemed like they had a small crew in the factory and only a few major machines.

i bet alot of cash goes into design though.

 
i went to the rossi factory in france, rack skiis are treated like SHIT before put out onto sale. The prosses involves alot of tossing topsheets onto bases

i think generally the smaller companies get them made by larger ones, like i think liberty get/got made by line, elan made armada's in slovenia, 4frnt is made in canada, yeha i dunno

my roommate makes skis, its not too hard if you have the right equip. and materials. i took him about 3 pairs to figure it out, but after that, it's just a skill like anything else.

on a side note, msg me if you are interested in his custom skis, he'll make them to whatever measurement/stiffness you'd like for $600 cdn. he makes a great ski.

Very hard and expensive to make skis. That's why some of these new companies sub-contract it out to real ski companies, so they can focus on what's really important - marketing.

 
Liberty skis are not made by Line, they have their own factory. Line skis were made in the same place as Karhu, and still are, which used to be done in the Burton Factory, but now is done in CHina.
