Making Jumps

So i went to go make a little jump into a big ass hill today and the thing kept falling apart/compressing into itself. Ive made jumps for when i used to ride mountain bikes (Azonic single speed) and its nothing like dirt. Help! Is there a type of weather that is best for building? what am i doing wrong/ should be doing?

Obviously i am a beginner, but a very progressive one, ive skied less than 20 days in the last two seasons(hopefully doouble that this year) and i can do drops, grinds, blah, blah, blah, but cant make jumps... HELP!

once you have a little bit of a snow pile pack it down with all your weight, if you have a snowboarder that helps.keep compacting it each time you get a little more snow on it. oh and if you put some rocksalt or furtilizer on it and let it sit for a while it hardens it pretty nicely

start with a huge pile of snow and pack and shape it into the jump that you want. alternatively, cut blocks of snow and pile them up, then fill in the gaps by shoveling snow. hand pack the lip so the top layer melts and refreezes, that way your lip will be nice and solid. it's a good idea to leave it overnight too, so the jump settles and compacts more.

um just build up lots and lots of snow and keep packing in down with your shovel and do that for a long time untill it is really hard and wet weather is usually better

heres how we do it in cali, make a huge mound of snow, way bigger than ur planned jump, then body pack the shit outta it, carve the kicker out, salt and pack, then ski and stop on it fixing the transition, then pull straws or get the most ballzy guy to go first and then kil it

1. Pick out spot for jump

2. Pile about 2 times more snow than you want the jump to be big

3. Pack the snow into the shape of jump

4. Let compact for 30 minutes

5. Reshape lip

6. Huck!

OK get everyones skis and snowboards but spare a couple boards for shovels and stick them into the ground were the lip of the jump is gonna be

keep piling snow up against the skis and snoboards then just carve out a lip

maybe ur snow isnt very wet and isnt packing well?

STEP 1: Scrape out soft snow away from the in run.

STEP 2: Use shovel to dig out a square of the hard snow.

STEP 3: Pile blocks into desired shape like you would with dirt.

STEP 4: Pack snow into jump like you would with dirt. Shape out the jump.

make a huge mound of snow bigger than planned

put a little bit of water using a spray bottle or just even a water bottle and let if freeze for like 5-10 min then your all set

if you are patient and in a place where your jump wouldn't be messed with, just make the basic form of your jump, bigger than you'll want tho, and pack it as good as you can, then let it sit overnight, it will self-pack and go back the next day and shape/carve it and you're good to go.

i love how you include the azonic single speed info hahahahahahhaa of course its not like dirt you moron, its snow!

1. Pick spot for jump

2. Make huge pile of snow ( at least twice as big as you want the jump)

3. optional: to strengthan li or to help build jump from under, stack small logs under snow or place 2 by 4 (depending on size of jump) under lip.

4. carve out desiered shape of jump and constantley pack down ( snowboards and ply wood work really well, but shovels are good)

5. spray jump with spray bottle o another sort of water source, or salt the jump ( if you dont have either its fine) and wait a good 15 to 30 min to let harden, and refreeze if you used salt or water.

6. have a nice cold beverage to admire your work

7. HUCK YOUR BRAINS OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ok first get a big pile of snow, next make some sort of mold out of your skis, so it gets into a jump shape, after that put on you skis and walk up and down the jump to make it harder, keeping adding snow and packing it down, after thats done, pack the lip a little more, but with your hands.(hand packed lips are better) then go hit it.

pack the snow as hard as you can. get good packing snow conditions to build them in. if the conditions are right, you can cut out slabs and chunks to pack and add on to which will make the building process quicker
