Making electro/mashups/dubstep

So I've been wanting to get into making my own music and after searching around here a bit it looks like I'm not the only one. Some advice on getting started would be rad.
First, what program? Like I said in the title, I'm interested in making electro, remixes/mashups, and maybe a bit of dubstep or incorporate that into the other stuff. I've looked into Reason 4 and Ableton Live 8, and both those sound good. Any word from someone who's used either? Or another program that's better?
Second: midi controller. I don't have a midi keyboard right now. Should I be looking into getting one, or is there a way that using my computer keyboard would work? And if I need a midi keyboard, what's a good cheap one? Preferably under $150.

threads been interested too.

i heard logic and reason are great programs for dubstep.

been wondering about the midi keyboard as well...

I'm going to have to go with Andrew on this one, seeing as he is one of the most abled dj's right now. I've used ableton and it works much better than most other programs.

Sick. Thanks guys. If it's good enough for you Hath it's good enough for me.
So any external stuff that I should look into? Mixers, keyboards, etc?

well, aside from the apc, the next thing your gonna wanna buy if your looking to getting into liive djing is a speaker.. i have the mackie srm450 v2, and its reallll clear and loud. however, if you want sound with a little more body and low end, a pair of qsc's are bangin.
but thats the thing.. it's up to what you wanna do.. if you're producing, your gonna want studio monitors so you can hear all of the frequencies in what your producing.

i really like this thread! il post up a good abelton torrent when i get home from school.

I'm going to do a semi thread jack here.
Any thoughts from anyone on the microkorg for dubstep?
I'm looking to pick one up in the next couple of weeks here, I'm just waiting on a paycheque to come in. Of course, that wouldn't be my only objective with it, but if anyone (hathbanger?) knows anything about it that would be rad. I'd be set up with the microkorg and logic studio 9 then, and I'd get an audio interface in the next little while too.
