I am trying to make a website and I'm hoping you guys no some good free ways to get started. It's for a clothing and ski companie that I'm trying to make. Can give me some tips on what I need to include. +++K

learn html/css if you want to do it yourself, not sure about services/platforms, perhaps wordpress? not sure if I remember wordpress being what I thought it was

this, anyone can do it. if you learn a little code you can do some customization, but no coding knowledge is necessary

try wix.com - it will help you out a lot if you know nothing.

but all helper services aside, just play with a wordpress site. super easy

As said previously, use Wordpress and just install the free plugins to do the things you want the site to do. Look up some basic HTML so you can format when the visual editor does strange things like add extra breaks and the like.

magento go is a better platform if you are planning on doing ecommerce. wordpress is great if its just info/photo/video that sort of thing because it was never intended to be used for ecommerce. Magento is super robust and has a lot of similarities, but is based more around sales.

Kind of stuck in the same position as the OP. I'm needing to create an e commerce site, but have 0 knowledge about it. Am I better hiring someone to create a website for me?

I'd probably say that for most people - magento is not the way to go. It's way complicated and meant for serious e-commerce.

I'd say wordpress is the way to go - so much customization and ease :)

Dude if you're selling stuff don't go open source/free.

Just get something like www.shopify.com and skin it for your needs. Even if you want to do wordpress pay for your store software (woocommerce or something).

Free stores are utter pieces of shit.

Adobe dreamweaver is an awesome program if you know coding, it is all offline too so you create the site then later upload to your hosting company. If your not in to coding as much tho, adobe Muse is awesome. You design your site from scratch by just laying your site out onto a canvas, it is similar to photoshops UI if you have used that.

Here is a site that I am working on with muse, its pretty basic but I'm just getting into it:

www.bolderpro.com

As for if you are selling stuff on it, Idk if either of these programs will work well.....

I just made a website last month and we're still building.

Godaddy+Bluehost+Wordpress

It's so easy and it looks amazing
