Make Skiing Great Again

Hey dudes,

So as i'm sure everyone is pretty aware. The winters are getting shorter, good resorts are getting more crowded and nowadays i can't even keep track of the amount of "model/skiers" on IG who seem to refuse to ever do anything rowdy on the mountain.

Our biggest yearly non FIS competition is jointly sponsored by the US Navy and an energy drink company (No, seriously) and the next winter olympics is scheduled to be held in a city without snow (Beijing).

An extremely large number of beloved brands skiers all of the world have identified with are now being auctioned off to the highest bidder. Unfortunately due to climate change, this, alongside the rise of bigger resort companies such as Vail is probably the future of skiing.

HOW CAN WE MAKE SKIING GREAT AGAIN???!!!

P.S extra points if anyone can explain why i keep seeing an unco AF photo of Lindsey Vonn naked attempting to tuck on her tuck on her tip toes in my newsfeed?

I mean one of the big things would be turning new beginners onto the sport. Instead of making fun of the gaper - we should realize that they are the secret to our future.

Every time you see a gaper, roll up and give them some pointers. New gaper dude in the park? Show him a couple of tips about park etiquette and how to hit a jump without killing himself.

It would go a long way to do anything possible to help new people get stoked on the best sport on the planet.

Haha true this i was more just curious about why they would choose such an awkward tuck (ie tip toes, back position etc) considering Lindsey obviously knows better.

Just strikes me as a Kardashian type tactic of "get naked and let fame find me".

Lindsey was obvs famous before but i'm sure you get my point

pretty sure it was for ESPN's Body Issue not some project she did on her own.

Just a thought..

I think its obvious that many skiers take skiing seriously too often. There are certainly times when you have to take thing serious. But the non serious, goofy, carefree skiing has been on the decline. It could be because lift tickets cost so much, so you want to get the best out of the ski day, but I would argue that real reason is because skiers are thinking about their style and their technical abilities more. Skiers today are without a doubt better than skiers 30 years ago. We are pushing the sport to its limits and that is amazing. You see the sick jumps and tricks in the air and want to be able to do the same. You see some really sick edits, without realizing that each 4 or 5 second clip probably took hundreds of shots to get it just perfect. Skiers of all levels are pushing to become better and better but in doing so we can miss out on some of the fun and weirdness of skiing. Hell, at the end of the day... all we are really doing is sliding down the hill on 2 sticks doing crazy ass tricks. Its hard to ask for both things. Do we want to have very experienced technical skiers who can do amazing, near superhero type shit, or do we let skiing turn into a sport that's only for fun, where style and technique don't matter. Id say like all things in life there has to be a balance. I think Shane McConkey and the culture he brought to the table nailed the balance. He kept pushing the sport without being so serious all the time.

Hang Loose and take it easy

For one, people can stop complaining about energy drink sponsors. Money in skiing is good, not bad. It doesn't matter how much you dislike the idea of energy drinks, a lot of your favorite skiers are able to ski full time because of energy drink sponsors.

Though I do agree the Army sponsoring X-games is strange.

Uh, the 2018 winter olympics are being held in Pyeongchang, South Korea, if I'm not mistaken. They'll be flying a bunch of research planes through winter storms there before the games to make it snow more. At least, that's what the avionics guy told me who was working on one such aircraft...that I got to tour, and it is awesome. Maybe I should write a news story on it and get some pics.

Yeh my bad i meant the 2022 ones but the problem is still the same for S. Korea!

I guess we'll see, the guy talking about those research planes said they could cause substantially more snow. Hopefully it works.

Maybe SK will get more snow from the ocean effect? Kinda like Japan gets crazy powder. Beijing is similar latitude but it's inland a little ways.

More fun. More comraderie among fellow rippers. I see too many serious faces in the liftlines on pow days, there are stoked people but i wanna hear the liftlines being rowdy as fuck when the skiings great.

we should have tanner hall run for president, use taxpayers money to lower season passes and free joints on the slopes
