so i just started on my first edit. i have an hv30 (hd obviously) and i've put a decent amount of time and money into my camera and computer. It's handling well in sony vegas 9 pro when i just have simple shots and whatnot, but when i throw in effects or overlap clips or something, it gets fairly jerky. what suggestions do you have that i could do for under $100 to speed it up a little? the computer is freshly restored on windows xp. It only has Internet, Sony Vegas, and HDV split on it.

specs: Pentium(R) 4CPU 2.80 GHz

2.79 GHz 2.00 GB RAM

suggestions? +k

My G5 is 2.0 GHz with 2 gb RAM and I edit p2 files just fine. How is your computer bogging down editing HDV?

Is your OS drive relatively empty? Are your media files on an internal or external hard drive? Maybe more RAM? Although you should be fine with what you have...

now this is where i get confused. i've been suggested both these options equally. what's pros/cons to getting added RAM compared to a better graphics card?

probably go with this.

and btw eheath, have you told that ski the east10 or whatever his name is kid to change his icon

its getting hella annoying, it just looks like you're posting 4 times more and 6 times more stupid

I'm going to go out and assume that Vegas 9 doesn't do GPU acceleration so getting a better graphics card will NOT help you. Getting a new processor will require you to upgade your motherboard in almost any case.. so there goes your 100 budget..

Your being held back by that processor, and maybe 1 GB of RAM..
