seriously come on what is up with eheath not being orange name. Not only is the kid putting out bangers on the rag, but he has a heart of god damn gold. He fought his way from the bottom, and he has earned the right to have his name immortalized. And you know what? I think, give the guy a year or two to mature, grow, learn, find God within, and you have yourself a top-notch moderator as well.

I'm not sure why half the people have orange names on NS. I understand sponsored athletes but half the orange names don't even have affiliations in their profile. I'm pretty sure just about anyone who makes a halfway decent webisode spin off gets one.

Yes I'm a player hater and no it has nothing to do with the fact that I've never been offered the orange name...
 
They are a rep for a company. Most orange names are pretty obvious who they rep. A year ago it was real bad, everyone and their grandmother had orange names.

Not really. Theres the same amount, its just NS is more critical about who they go slapping orange on...

...that, and many of the Orange names who WERE active have sorta quelled their posting.
 
i've gotta say, I don't totally get orange names. what denominates you as "in the industry"? photographers and filmers can have orange names, but how well known do they have to be? how within the industry do you have to work for an orange name? I work at a ski shop; can i have an orange name?

just wondering.
 
I am in the industry.

I am a photographer. i have made money by filming and taking photos of skiers and snowboarders.

I also work for my ski hill at a management/supervision position.

can i have an orange name?

Working in a ski shop is working for the retail industry. It's connected to the ski industry, but I wouldn't call it 'the ski industry'.

I've worked for several different ski shops in Oregon and California doing just about every job you could be involved with at a ski shop. I would have never said that I 'worked for the ski industry' in my time doing that stuff.

At least with me, being an orange name is giving people who have a question about the company I work for, a person who's RIGHT THERE to answer their questions regarding a product. I get PM's all the time with questions and I answer them as promptly as I can. I'm sure others do the same thing.

Also... if every kid and their mom who worked in a ski shop could get an orange name.. holy shit NS would be flooded with them, and there would be no meaning to it.

 
I totally understand all of this.

But where on the "pro" skier and filmer line start getting people orange names? I know there are a few who do not have orange names by choice. I just feel that a lot of this line is very blurred, and yet it is cut into a straight line.
 
Good question. I had my name as orange before they started slapping them on pro skiers.

that said... sponsored skiers are just as much of a company representative as a sales representative. If you have a contract with a company as a sponsored rider, then I believe you have all the clout you need to be orange on NS.
 
basically, you gotta know someone who knows someone who can hook you up with that orange name.

 
I'm not by any means saying you don't deserve an orange name but I have no clue who you work for just from looking at your profile. I feel like the purpose of an orange name is to help easily identify industry ambassadors to ns. You should put info in your profile to make it clear.
