I mainly listen to underground rap, and most of the MC's could rip any beat so much better than the "mainstream" rappers

The current state of rap that is considered "good" enough to be popular is ridiculous

Army of the Pharaohs is a good example because it is a collaboration of different underground artists.

Should checkout the site Boxden Slumz sometime, if you post enough you can get access to their downloads section. It's like an albumbase for hip hop.
 
mainstream hiphop isnt underground anymore not because they are good, its because they make catchy songs. look at lil jon
 
most of the "mainstream" rappers are no-talent jokes. (Lil Jon, Soulja Boy, 50 Cent, Young Joc, Hurricane Chris, etc., etc., etc..)

I'd like to hear Lil Jon rip a track like anyone in AOTP.. But, he cant. All he can contribute to music is "Yeeeaaahhh!".
 
This is pretty sick but like the only reason I don't listen to this stuff regurlarly is because its so much shit about killing and niggers and stuff which is just bullshit. I like underground stuff but not about beating the shit outa ppl.
 
Some rappers rap about that, but AOTP doesnt really do it that much.

Most of em used to be gang bangers so a lot of it is real talk (to a certain extent)

A lot of the lyrics have much deeper meaning if you think about it.
 
There is a lot, you just have to know the right places to look. Lupe Fiasco is good, he's gaining alot of popularity lately, The Pharcyde, The Roots, Tribe, JMT, Jurassic 5, that's all I can think off of the top of my head right now.

Wow people on NS need to chill. I have seen some of the biggest arguments over what kind of rap/hip-hop is good. Everyone has their own taste in music and just because you dont like it dosent mean it sucks. I listen to both mainstream and underground and they both have there ups and downs. Listen to what YOU like and stop trying to follow trends.
 
First off that song is hella old. I like it but im kinda tired of it now. Oh and if you think all of Weezy's tracks are good. Think again. I like him but sometimes he is terrible. Listen to crank dat weezy wee and if you tell me it is good you must not have any ears.

That song sucks, and so do all of his other songs. His voice is raspy and monotonous, with a weak flow.

Even on a sick beat, Weezy's music isn't good.

I guarantee if he wasn't Birdman's son, he wouldn't be a successful rapper.
 
Oh and for everyone who thinks Birdman is Lil waynes real dad you obiviously know nothing about rap. Listen to Hustler Music or look it up if you dont belive me.

Lil Wayne is way more popular that he should be. I've been huge on the mainstream/underground stuff for a long time now. The reason he is so popular is not because his music is good, or his beats are good or anything like that. He is just one of the best presenters I have ever heard. He is really good at what he does, which is delivering his music. His voice is annoying, his lyrics and beats are mediocre at best, but he can present it so well he has alot of popularity. Regardless, I rarely listen to him, not much of a fan. There is infinitely better stuff out there.

army of pharoahs is the best rapping that anyone can produce. all around their beats and lyrics are just amazing. bloody tears is one of the best songs ive ever heard

it doesnt matter whether you like him or not, but you honestly can't say lil wayne is a good rapper. He really is a cocky fuck, no flow, no skill, annoying voice, etc.

For me, I can't really listen to JMT or AOTP cuz its just to much violence. This is the same reason why I don't like death metal. When I listen to music I want songs that are more chill, and if they do talk about violent stuff, not in a way that tries to make them appear cool and tough. Most rappers use the excuse of "I'm just mirroring what happened in my life." This is ok, but what they really do is jsut use it to make themselves appear cooler. I'm not gunna respect someone more if they snap peoples fingers in half or blow peoples brains out.
 
I agree with you, mainstream rap is lame as fuck. For example, Crank That by Soulja Boy that nigger is so unintelligent that its funny. But somehow all of the retarded simple lyric rappers always make bank with their shitty ass songs.
 
mainstream music is all about mtv trying to get people obsessed with people like beyonce by marketing the fuck out of her. There is so much great music out there but mtv only covers a little bit of it. Thats why the mainstream sucks
