Magnus 102 vs. Jskis Vacation vs. ARV 106

Hey guys I am trying to decide on a new set of skis. I am currently looking the the magnus 102, vacation, and ARV 106. I am currently on jskis whipit and I spend a lot of time in the park, but I am looking to get a wider more playful ski that will be able to perform better outside of the park. I also ski on the east coast. I am 6'3" and 190 lbs.

I haven't been able to find much on the magnus 102 and the vacation since they are both new for this year. However I am drawn to the heavy rocker on the magnus 102's since I have never skied rockered skis, but I am concerned that they might not float as well as the other 2 in the soft snow since they are more park focused.

Magnus really shouldn't be apart of the conversation. The ARV has won editors choice on NS for 2 years in a row, i'd go for that. I like that ski

Ok, if that is the case how does the vacation compare to the ARV 106?

I have about 10 days so far on the magnus 102 this year. Yeah pretty much all the content you see from on3p on the magnus 102 is in the park, but it's not some noodely park ski, it rips as an all mountain jib ski and that's what I've been using it as. I've spent a lot of time on the kartel 108 and it feels really familiar to that, but dial up the playfulness at the expense of a little bit of stability/float. I've skied a little pow and it floated liked you'd expect from a 102 waisted ski with rocker in the tip and tail. I haven't been on the other skis you're considering, so can't compare, but it's not like those are pow skis.

Where do you have your bindings mounted on the Magnus 102s?

Right on the line, which is -2

I have only ever had my skis center mounted. I am worried not center mounting them may feel weird or is that an irrational concern?

I honestly never noticed a difference on any ski whether it is mounted back or true center. My old chronics I had recommended for the first few months and hen I got them remounted center and I did not even notice a difference. You should be fine doing whatever you want

If you get the magnus I'd say just mount on the line. The sidecut, core, rocker/camber profile is all designed around that point, so that's the optimal place to mount. Being at -2 is going to be better than center for outside of the park and float in pow, and it sounds like that is important to you. I could see mounting forward of recommended if you are using it as just a park ski

Awesome, good to know! I really like skiing in the woods, have you had a chance to try them out in the trees yet?

Yes they ski trees just fine. I think the most challenging condition for them is ice, because it has so much rocker and the edges come detuned for park (if you don't ski rails, maybe call on3p and ask if they can just give you the standard detune rather than the park detune)

In the same boat here. Kind of ruling out the ARV 106 because it's tail is far stiffer in porpotion to it's nose, while the magnus 102 and vacation seem a bit more symmetrical in terms of flex. (Also considering the libtech ufo 100, but as an alternate. Anybody ridden this before? Is it soft enough to tail butter?)

Hoping that by giving this tread a bump, someone with some more experience on the magnus 102 or the new vacation can weigh in. Thanks!

106 slays. Haven’t been on the others. Great one ski quiver. Don’t think you can go wrong with either. Got a good deal on the 106 and very happy with them. Ski all over, any condition and 0 complaints.

But... do they tail butter? Where do you have them mounted at? What length, and how tall/heavy are you?

They do if you are willing to load them up, mounted at center on the 180s, I’m 5’9” and 185lbs. Not as easy to initiate a butter but I find them to be a bit more stable instead of the dollos where it was easy for me to load them up too much. And fwiw I was considering the magnus 102s but got a great deal on the arv and had a good experience with my old dollos so gave them a shot. The price was right, if you are going to pay retail then the magnus would be perhaps the one I would have gone with. Then again I am skeptical buying a ski I can’t atleast hand flex in a shop.

Just bumping this as I’m in a similar position so wanted to see if anybody has further reviews, particularly on how the arv 106 and Magnus work in fresh snow (obviously this wouldn’t be the main concern but considering getting one of these 3 skis mentioned above as a one ski quiver)
