Magic J / Bentchetler pow ski sizing

Hey guys,

I demoed the 190 Magic J last weekend in Mammoth in good snow and loved them. I'm looking to buy my first pow specific ski. I'm currently riding moment PB&Js and plan on continuing to ride them when there is little to no fresh snow on the hill. I'm only 5'8" 165... do you think the 180 would be a better match (they didn't have them to try) or does 190 sound ok?

Also, the only other ski that I've had my eye on is the Bent Chetler. Are they similar at all to the Magic Js? I'm pretty sure I want rocker/camber/rocker because it's what I'm used to, but also to make it easier to get back to the lift through the more tracked out stuff.

It'd be great to hear any input on these particular skis or other recommendations also. Thanks in advance
 
honestly if you're using them for deep snow, and if you think you can handle them, go with the 190. you said yourself you loved them, if it aint broke why fix it? im on the 195 jj's and couldnt be happier riding a big boy ski
 
Thanks, that's confidence inspiring. Looking to hear some opinions on the Bent Chetlers also if anybody out there has a thought
 
Im the same height and stepped up to 189's on my pow skis this season....so fun. Anything smaller for pow at that size may be to small with rocker.
 
OK, new issue. I found the 190 and 180 online, but the 180 is about $100 cheaper. Will I notice that much of a difference if I want to save some money?
 
Go with the 190. In my experience the Armada 190 is pretty damn short. like 185. So the 180 will actually measure out in the 170's.
 
Without question go with the 190 in the Magic J, I am 160cm and 60kg and for the past 2 years I have skied the 180 everyday which although isn't ideal in all NZ conditions I love it and it skis short and I am used to it, for the past 11 years I have skied the JJ's in 185 as they also skied short.

I have enclosed my quiver of skis, i was missing a couple of JJ's but have them all now, haha.

Woah, that's one helluva quiver. Have you ever been on anything other than armadas? Also, I appreciate the advice.
 
I have been lucky enough to ski on many skis and the majority of brands too every winter and I am biased towards Armada, haha. If I was not skiing on these I would ski Candide 4.0 although I also enjoy the Benchetlers too. The most important thing is that it puts the biggest dirtiest grin on your face and you have said already you love them, just wait until you get to ski them constantly, the grin will be even bigger and as you say this will be your pow ski so you will not be disappointed, get them.
