Madens vs supermojo 105

hey guys... right now im skiing on a pair of 172 LINE mothership titaniums for my everyday ski...im always huntin for powder...i like steeps, trees, chutes, some cliff drops (not huge...usually around 15 feet or so) and i like haulin ass so im lookin for something fatter and stiffer... and ive got my eye on either some 179 madens, or 181 supermojo 105....

im about 6 feet 150 lbs, it will probably end up being my everyday ski and my mo'ships will probably turn into park/crappy condition day skis...

which one will be better for my type of skiing, i do alot of technical stuff, so i want them to be decently turny, but still able to rip it through crup and pow at speed

if your 6 foot, id stay clear of the 179 maden's. do the 189. much better all moutain, powder, hauling machine. the madens are soft however, and the supermofo 105 is a stiff fucker for a twin. do the math, the supermojo hauls alot better, probably a better big mountain stick, but the maden would be better for slower stuff, actually turning, going normal speeds in powder. that kinda stuff. depends on your preferences. the mojo is gonna be a huge chagne from the 172 motherships, but if you like stiff skis and going fast, its gonna be one hell of a good change.

AKs deff not stiff enough if ur going to bomb the hill...id say the best for u would be the mojos there stiffer which will help for ur size and style of skiing

id suggest go for a bigger size then 181 though

and gotamas i dont know nothin aboot

All three skis you mentioned are reputed to be great skis. The Mojo 105s are by far the stiffest of the three, and so while their wide waist would make powder skiing fairly easy, they would probably be the best variable-condition ski of the three. They're also probably the most expensive. (They sell for $800 new around here.)

I hear the Madens/AK Enemies are killer powder skis. But I'm not sure how their softness affects their performance outside of the powder runs.

Everybody raves about Gots, especially on the TGR Forum, so I'm sure they're solid skis.

I'd also recommend adding the Prophet 100s to your list. I did a similar search a couple weeks ago and ended up going with the Prophs. They're stiffer than the Gots and Madens but softer than the 105s. For the past week or so, I've been skiing nothing but deep powder, trees, and technical chutes and I absolutely love my Prophs. I can charge with confidence and control. They're also a little cheaper than the skis you've mentioned.

i'm 5'6" and i have 179 mad'ns and they are sick and i can mob on them, you should get some 189s

Gotama's are really really fucking stiff, but great skis for variable conditions. I like the flex in my Madens a lot for some reason. They're kinda a great ski for what I do, which sounds much like what the original poster said he skis. My 179's turn great for being so massive, and I do mogul lines with them somedays. The softness is incredible after being on old foam cored 1080's for so many years. Great flex means the skis blast around or through anything you throw them at. Crud can be like pow with them, its amazing, they're kinda like a light tank. Madens/AK's are pretty heavy skis however, so you'll develop some new leg muscles the first week you ride them. And forget whipping around spins - 1's and 3's are the most I've been able to do with the air I get.

I would say fuck the stiffness factor and just go for the Madens, they're a lot of fun, even if they get somewhat sloppy around the edges. My friend and I race groomers on icy days - hes got Gotama's and I have my Madens - and we usually end in a tie at the bottom of the run. Madens are also going to be a lot cheaper too if thats a factor - I found mine with only a chipped topsheet for $440 - with bindings. Who cares about cosmetics anyways, a bystander cant see shit when you whip past them anyways.

ak enemy's/ made'n, i got em, and they are fun. fun fun fun. i love them, not good on ice though, groomers they're fine though, awesome in any new snow though.

who the fuck are you kidding?

Gotamas are a great medium flex ski. Maybe you could consider it stiff-ish, but thats a maybe. However it is a great all around ski. Much better than the Made'n. The Made'n is amazing in pow and the trees, and the softness makes them tons of play to play around with on groomers and in the park. Once you get up to speed on them or rip through the crud they will be chattering like mad.

The Mojo 105 is slightly smaller but way stiffer than the Made'n and a little stiffer than the Gotama. It is way better in the crud than the Made'n, but reviews are mixed when comparing it to the Gotama. While the flex is stiff, the Mojo is not torsionally stiff. If you are going to be skiing crud I would try and demo the Mojo and the Gotama. Also, go for the bigger size (189,190,191) if you think you're going to put on any weight, cause 6' is getting up there.

i was thinking about going to the longer lengths, but i think that might compromise versatililty too much..like i said i do alot of technical sort of stuff so i wanna be able to throw them around, but still have them able to rip through crud...

oh...also i have a pretty sweet hookup on some first gen 183 gotamas, that have only been skied a handful of times, so that might sway my descision

I'd go with the 183 Gots then. The length should be more than fine for tight spots. I'm 6'1" 185 lbs and my 186cm Prophet 100s are super nimble in narrow chutes and tight trees. I'd be comfortable in such spots with a 192cm if they made it. I'd think that the Gots would be similar. Also, to the extent that you need to straight-line the run out of technical runs, you're gonna want some length on your skis to handle quick speed build-ups and dumps.
