Macbook vs Macbook pro

Sometime, probably this summer, im gonna convert to mac-ism. Im looking at the macbook and macbook pro. if i were to get the macbook, i would get the 2.0proccesser one and if i went with the pro i would get the 15inch 2.16 proccessor one. I dont really wanna have to spend more money on the pro, but if the macbook wouldnt cut it id pay extra. Mainly, this is for photography and video editing. I would probably buy RAM and maybe an external hardrive for either one. so my question is which should i go for? would i be set if i went with the macbook?

can you upgrade video cards. and what dont macbooks have that macbook pros do that allow them to run final cut pro. and are the refurbs brand new in appearance, or could they have scratches and stuff?

Get a refurbished pro, they're pretty cheap, and in my opinion are worth it. Plus they come in an aluminum casing, which is the sickest thing ever.

you'll be able to run final cut pro on both. the better seperate video card on the pro will be an advantage to you as will a larger screen. you can't really upgrade the video card as it's a built in on the board un. both are great and really it comes down to how much graffic performance you need, size and $$.

remember that leopard will be out soon ish... and possibly following that will be some performance bumps.

Actually, it's better for heat, in that it sucks more of it out of your system and into the air. Metal makes for a better heat sink than plastic, but on the flip side, you feel it more.

I went MacBook. Few reasons: it's smaller, it's easier to carry, it's a little lighter, the 13 inch screen is PLENTY big for most applications, it runs everything I need to run and then some, and so on. Oh, and price VS performance, the MacBook destroys the MacBook Pro. You simply get more for your money with a MacBook.

The cons? I suppose my integrated video card is a con, but then again, I haven't noticed it one bit. Integrated video might be bad for video editing, but it doesn't mean shit as far as InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator are concerned, so I don't care. If I edited video, I would. I don't have as many USB or Firewire ports, that kinda sucks, but I can deal with that, and other than that, I think I might like the illuminated keyboard option that the Pro has, but that's it.

I've had no problems with my MacBook, and with my soon to come RAM upgrade (yeah 1.5 gigs!) I'll be even happier.

that's exactly what i am going to do, and when i start going to school next year i am going to get an external hard drive as well, i much prefer the macbook, more bang for your buck.

my friend told me that the newer macbook has almost the same exact specs as the pro for like a grand cheaper just to let you all know. i haven't really checked so i dont know what the difference is compared to those 2 now

Macbook's are solid, they don't have too many problems. The Pro (mainly 17") have had some issues.

I have a 15" Pro (2.0, June 2006) that I've been using for a little over a year now. I had to have the battery replaced as I cycled it far too often taking it to class and running it on the battery all the time. Also, the screen is dimming on the left side (occasionally), and I sent it back for that but they didn't fix it. I'd buy Applecare, actually I was planning on it, but it's too late now which is a huge bummer.

When I decided to get the Pro, it was because:

- Bigger screen

- Aluminum Casing

- Graphics Card

- Bigger screen

I could run a second monitor, but one thing I've found is that this display is AMAZING. I ran duals with my parents' 19" wide HP (brand spankin' new) and noticed a huge difference in colour and was really disappointed with it.

At times I still think it'd be cool to have just bought the Macbook and then bought a monitor and a wireless keyboard/mouse setup, but at the same time I love this machine and like the fact that when I take this with me I've always got the nice screen with 1440x900 resolution.

bump..i will buy a laptop in october when leopard comes out, and i am torn between the two..right now, is it really a grand difference in price? whats the screens resolution for hte macbook? also, do both have the same wifi - wireless stuff?

what convinced me to bite the bullet and go for the pro was the screen (LED) and its size, along with the video card, and I am glad that I did, this computer slays anything that I have compared it to.

The pro packs many more features than the regular macbook, plus the casing is much more durable on the pro.
