Macbook Air

i think its sweet and perfect for what its meant for. its not meant to be used as a main computer. Its for traveling and taking it to class.

Honestly, how often do you use your disc drive? I almost never do. When I do I'll most likely be close enough to someone elses computer that I can use their disc drive with Remote Disc. The 5 hour battery life is awesome. The multitouch pad is probably awesome as well.

No firewire sucks because you won't be able to capture video footage. 1 usb is no big deal cause all I use USB for is an iPod or maybe my cell phone.

This would be great for someone with their printer and some storage hooked up to their wireless network already.

No, its not a great deal, but the price is justified. Its still a very fast laptop and you can't forget all the highly paid engineers that work on this stuff. I'm definitely considering getting one of these since I carry my laptop with me everywhere.

If you took a couple seconds to think about it, you'd realise that the 2 grand factor isn't that big a deal. It's a common trend that applies to any newly released technology. All we have to do is wait just a short time, and the price will drop substantially. The only reason it's so high right now is because it's brand new technology. Nothing so small has ever been released, and obviously the company put quite a bit of funding into breaking the barrier. The same trend can be seen in cars these days. The hydrogen car, or electric car, both were rediculously expensive when they were first released, and nobody bought them. But, as the technology aged (just a bit), and it became cheaper to manufacture, the prices fell to a reasonable level, and now you see them popping up all over the place. If one wants to look within apple to see a similar trend, look at the iPod. The very first iPod was seen as overpriced and unnecessary. Now, half the freakin' world has one in their pocket. So just wait a little while. Soon, it won't be 2 grand. Soon, there will be an optical drive in the thin laptop, as will there be more memory, and capability. It's all coming. Just sit back and relax. Don't get hyped up about having to shell out the 2 grand now or else you'll never be able to buy one ever, because if you just chil for a while, it'll be fine.

its just like the shuffles. things are gettign to small for those of us who are forgetful and lose things. i dont want to lose something that is worth 2 grand.

yea seriously shit is getting tooooo small now. like the new ipod nano. holy fuck! have u held one? its so awkard. I like the size of minis..

i use my dvd drive all the time for movies and stuff, so that does suck. BUT, i am glad that they didnt release anew MBP because i just got one and would be a little pissed if they just came out with a new one haha

This shit will sell like crazy to businesses and school etc that don't need optical drives.

I am not sure about that no DVD drive and the price they charge ...

but heck .. Apple usually make some stuffs that are way ahead ..

so, who knows. let's see

let the early adapters test it first, I will keep my current macs for a few years

macworld was bust, no upgraded hard drive on the iphone, no 3g, ill stick to my blackberry

SSD costs 1300 dollars more give me a break, i have an ipod i dont need an ipodbook air

lame

This seems very useful for those rich enough to afford it as a second computer portable enough to be taken anywhere, but obviously doesn't have the specs or capabilities to replace mainstream desktops/laptops for average consumers.

gotta say that it's probably a lot better when we all get to see this in actual life! it's sick for those who already have an imac and now want to get a super portable labtop.

its expensive and unpractical unless your some super rich kid. If i had like 20,000 grand to blow, i would buy one......otherwise its a no go. It will lead to cool innovations and is a stepping stone in technology. Pretty sweet thing though, just too pricey for the common folk.

you're dumb.

Although I don't like the mighty mouse, it has more than 1 button. It has the main button, touch sensitivity for detecting right clicks, the scroll ball scrolls and works as a button, and finally you have the squeeze buttons on the side that also work as a button.

The trackpads have one button but... they have two fingered scrolling (WAY better than that scrolling side trackpad garbage), two fingered right clicking, and with the macbook air support for other gestures as well.

You can hate on apple all you want for being to expensive or trendy or whatever but as far as user interface goes they're on top of the game.

It's an interesting concept, no doubt about that. The lack of a CD Drive is slightly problematic, however, chances are you wouldn't be installing a bunch of programs and software on it anyways. It doesn't have the capabilities to run them nor the HD space.

An easy workaround for the lack of an optical drive is creating virtual drives and using your other computer to burn disk images. I'm sure anyone that would own one of these new macs would need a second computer.

It kind of sucks that you can't remove the battery, but in reality, not many people do. Same with things like upgrading the RAM and so on. It basically comes down to: if you want to make it any better, you have to pay Apple to do it for you. Which I guess kinda makes sense on their end. They also say the battery lasts for 5 hours, but when you are running the thing at full power and actively working on it I am curious to see what it actually rates at.

All in all, I don't think it will be a huge success like the macbooks were, but it will get some pretty good business, partially due to the name behind it. I just wish they would have unleashed some stuff that I would be more excited for.

I had all these arguments last night at the bar.

If you watch a lot of DVDs on the road, this computer isn't for you.

If you play a lot of video games, this computer definitely isn't for you

If you're poor, this computer isn't for you.

Wait a couple of months and they'll drop in price like the iPhone and they'll start popping up in classes.

I do indeed want one, but unfortunately I'm poor, so I'll have to wait.

Just saw this today and sure 2 g's is a lot for what the comp is but since its so new and no one else has anything like it people will buy it. It for sure will not be their main computer, you can install all your stuff from the remote computer. That new time capsule or whatever is also a sick idea.

Personally I think its a sick thing to have if your someone that would use it, if you travelled alot, Perfect, its light, thin and has all you would need. You can access all your files, do your work, check your email from the airport or hotel or where ever you are.

Basicly, its good for some, not for others.

the disk drive is another $100. big deal, just keep it in your laptop bag for when ur planning on watching movies and such. the drive is just a bit bigger than a cd jewel case anyways

that shit is retarted, we didn't put in a optical drive to be wirelessly e-cool thats code for we want to scam you into renting movies off itunes and drain you even harder
