Mac vs PC

/images/flash_video_placeholder.pngMAC will always whoop, thats why there the top computer for almost every rating, except for gaming but thats why we have fucking xbox and ps3 all you World of Warcraft nerds!

classic misinformed 3rd grader trying to talk about technology. fyi, mac can run world of warcraft.

when i bought my laptop i could have easily bought a mac with the same ammount of money. however that mac had a core 2 duo instead of an i5, 320 gb hard drive instead of 500 and only 2 usbs none of them 3.0 or esata and no hdmi. and my pc had a slot drive and a backlit keyboard

Shut up. I can afford a iMac. I still bought a PC. Sure it doesn't come with a shiny aluminum body with an Apple logo on it but I don't need to buy a new one every year since they are far behind enough as it is. How in this day and age can you be selling a computer running an i5 processor at 3.1ghz for 2k? Plus my computer looks 10x more bad ass than a mac.

And to all those guys saying only buy a PC if you're a WoW playing nerd; Fuck you. I don't play WoW, I play BF3 just like all you fuckers do on xbox. Just with a mouse and keyboard, and after 4 or so years playing FPS games on my ps3, PC is far better.

/end rant

Hey now, my mac was about $700, though I got my GPU for free. It too has a shiny aluminum case and is actually faster than a mac pro. The only difference is that I built it myself. I think 1337 did it as well, it's the way to go.

Anybody who thinks Macs are better than PCs is just mentally retard. Don't be jealous that you're not as smart as the rest of us.

Macs are better than PC's in the creative aspect of things. In the gaming aspect PC's are better. That's all that PC's are good for, gaming and hacking.

How long do we have to do this before your provide some sort credible evidence to support your claims?

I still don't understand how computer software can make someone "more creative", it's something that the person thinks up, it has to do not the software which just lets you mindlessly push objects around a screen. That and the only thing that a mac has over a pc are final cut pro and some audio editing software and just to be clear FCP isn't the greatest. All Adobe products can run on windows and vice versa with no issues. The creative aspect is nothing but a marketing ploy to lure generation x and y into getting a Macintosh, you are unique and this isn't your fathers computer blah blah blah.

Partially why I'm dual booting Mac and PC. I prefer mac for everyday things like internets, music and video editing, and typing. The lack of viruses doesn't hurt anything either. The issue is, it's about as good for games as a potato, so when I feel the game coming on I just reboot.

My two cents on the topic: I have a white macbook, I've had it for over 3 years now without a single problem. Absolutely no problems. In that same time period, my parents have gone through two pc laptops, and my sister is now on her second pc laptop...and I'm pretty sure I download way more shit and visit much more questionable websites.

My macbook still runs just as fast as it did the day that I got it, performance is amazing and I just feel like everything is more streamlined. Sure some people might call it "simple" but hell it works fine for me.

I did not pay for this myself though, I am privileged enough that my parents bought it for me for college. This means that until I get a teaching job and can actually afford one myself I have to make this one last. So finish this year, and then 1 year and change for a master's and then hopefully the teaching job market will be good, so within the next 5 years I would hope. At the rate I'm going though, I should be just fine.

"Peace of Mind"

Shut the fuck up. It's annoying how you think a PC is only good for 2 things. I use it for everything. It's a fast computer that can handle everything. For schoolwork Microsoft products such as Word and Excel are way better. All Adobe products are basically the same on Mac and PC. Mac has FCP, that's about it. This argument is dumb because it all comes down to personal preference. Personally I like my PC better than my parents iMac. Others may like the simplicity of a Mac. Others might like the capability of a PC. Saying that one is better than the other based on facts that you have no proof to back up with is idiotic.

Even if it didn't have the apple logo on it I'm sure 100% of mac users, including myself, would still buy it. It's about the functionality, user-friendliness, and reliability of the computer. Did you buy a PC cause it has a dell logo or toshiba or whatever on it? No. You bought it cause you are an ignorant mac-hater that thinks it's cool to rag on a computer/brand/company for no reason at all. I'm sure you've never even spent 5 minutes on a mac. I'm not saying that a mac is the end-all, be-all of computers, but from my experience i've never had a problem with my mbp in the 2 1/2 years that i've had it. It runs the programs I need - including most of the software I need for architecture - and is incredibly durable. My boyfriend accidentally knocked it off my bed at school while it was open - no dents, scratches, cracking, no problems with the screen or any of the programs I had running at the time. If that's not a great computer then I don't know what is.

When you go into teaching, please put a NS sticker somewhere on any of your items. I would love to see a NS sticker on something of my teachers.

I've owned Dell computers since I was 12, never had any real crazy problems with them. Had to replace the hard drive a few times and deal with the various viruses but nothing major. Got a Macbook Pro last year and I'll never use anything but Mac again. I just like it so much better. It all comes down to personal preference. Also, I think it's hilarious that all the Mac haters listing specs for other laptops and how they shit all over Macbooks probably only use their computers for the internet and Microsoft Word and will never use all that power.

PC's:better hardware for the money (usually twice as fast for the same price)

many different companies and styles

upgradeable (desktops mostly)

MAC's

easier to use

aluminum case (MBP)

insanely smooth trackpad that for some reason cannot be found on any PC laptops

never get viruses

more stable software (though Win 7 is getting there. I haven't had it crash yet.)

My personal choice:

PC. it's faster and cheaper. nuff said. just keep all data backed up on an external, so if u get a virus, just reinstall windows.

If you have $2,000 to spend: think about getting a mac, then just get a new pc and a new pair of skis

I'm on the same boat as you. I've had a Dell desktop since I was like 10. Within the past 3 year I've had to restore the HDD on it at least 7 times. Plus it's from 05 running windows xp media something. I got a Macbook Pro is September and I'm never going back to PC. Plus my Mac works so much better with my Time Capsule (Apple's external HD + built in router for those of you who didn't know). Best router on the market. For $275, shit's legit. Not to mention Apple TV is fucking amazing as well! Yes, I kinda am a Apple fanboy so you could say. Macbook pro, iPhone 4, iPod nano, Ipod shuffle, Apple TV, and Time Capsule.

Its all personal preference. I like how mac os works and i like using programs like FCP so mac is what works best for me.

Here's my experience:
Owned a Mac: Rather content

Had a PC: Fucking hated it, it was slow, got viruses, lagged like a bitch and generally pissed me off.
Current Mac: fast, virus free,OS is nicer to use and better for music and video editing.
Although I've had Macs since 96, when I was 3 years old. Still always liked 'em better than PCs.

Ignorant Mac hater? No. IF you read any of my posts above I clearly stated that my parents own a Mac. I've been using for the past 2 and a half years. I have my PC now and I like it better. I do like the Mac OS but I just prefer the functionality of my PC. I don't mean to rag on Mac's but after owning a PC I like it much much more. It's basically everything a Mac can do + gaming - FCP. Again, I didn't mean to hate on Macs, but what Kangbang said was just fucking stupid.

omg, durability. a friend of mine dropped a pc laptop over a whole set of stairs (granted it was in the laptop-bag) with like 15 steps and NO problem.

in my opinion, if you pay more than 5 bucks for your laptop being more "durable", than you should better work at a construction site or so and need your computer there.

its a fucking laptop, take care of it. you dont have to drop it day in day out.

The whole "pc's getting viruses" thing comes down to common sense. Either get some antivirus, or stop looking at porn on your computer and downloading off sketchy sites. (ipod touches were invented for a reason) You don't just get viruses out of the blue.

I kinda chuckled at this post. all you said was "pc laptop" I am pretty sure there are over 1000 pc laptops. gives specifications please.

I owned a macbook pro for 3 years, from 7th grade to sophomore year, and let me just say it was a piece of shit. So many things went wrong that I don't think I can list all of them. I probably spent more on gas money going to and from the apple store then the computer was worth. To just a name a few of the problems, the backlights broke twice, the magnetic connectors for the charger stopped working, it was slow as shit, and my space bar AND click part of the trackpad both started to stick(there was no cum involved). Sophomore year i bought myself a HP Pavillion Dv6t and it does everything a mac can do twice as well -fcp. HD screen, Blu-ray player, no viruses, trackpad is outstanding, and it looks fucking great too. AND ALSO GUESS WHAT, one time i dropped it off my bed and it still worked afterwards. HOLY FUCKING SHIT. If that's not a great computer then I don't know what is.

So your brand new computer worked better than a 5 year old Dell...no fucking way? That MUST mean Macs are better.

I have had my 4 month Vaio shit on me about a week ago but it was really easy to restore everything and get it operational within a day. I still would buy a PC over a Mac any day though.

Way more bang for your buck and they are as easy or complicated as you want them to be.

Also this isn't like 10 years ago. Macs can play pretty much any game PCs can now a days. Stop using this for an argument as to why PCs are better.

Just enjoy paying double for the same graphics card in your Mac required to play some of the newer games today. Oh and in a couple years you could just replace that graphics card with a newer one...oh wait. You can't change out any hardware in a Mac..

thats kinda the worst part of the debate. its always pc vs mac when pc couldnt be a broader term.

oh my fucking god, it was a fujitsu siemens, build in like fucking 03 or 04 or what, whatever.

i am just tired of the point made by applefanboys, that they dropped their macbook from whatever height and its still going. i have had laptops for 9 years or so, brought them with me to school/college day in day out and i honestly cant remember that i legitimately "dropped" my laptop until now.

its just not something to be proud of. its a fucking laptop, it shouldnt be flying around like jumbo. so you probably got your mac from your parents and stuff and thus you dont care. but that is just an exaggerated assumption.

BOTTOM LINE: say whatever you want about this debate, better/worse blabalablabala. just buy what you want, but the next guy who brings this "yo dude, i dropped my mac from a 18-story building. no scratches. MLIB."-bullshit will have to pay the price.

Applied for a job at a computer repair place. I mentioned I was a mac dude and the guy laughed. Thing is, 90% of the business there is viruses, 5% more is parts going bad, and the other 5% is dropped computers. So from a hardware standpoint, both are almost exactly the same, and unless you're a gamer, they can really both do the same things equally well. What really sets them apart, then, is both viruses and the cost. I'm writing this on my 6 year old macbook, which hasn't slowed down noticeably since I got it. Yes, the graphics card is useless nowadays, but the point is, no viruses is freakin' sweet. That being said, if you're somewhat careful and clean out your PC now and again, it can last as well. If you're the type of person who spends a ton of time on sketchy sites perhaps a mac might be better for you.

well... i have a mac and im not gonna lie, i absolutely love the trackpad and backlit keyboard is a plus too, not to mention it runs my favs, Final Cut Pro and Logic Studio..along with the essentials. i never argue which is better because it all depends on what you want to do and how smoothly you want to do it. macs are expensive and pc's are cheaper..but i love my mac and will never get another pc. my $0.02
