MAC vs. PC

So lets hear what yall have to say. Personally, im an electrical and computer engineering student at the university of colorado and im 100% pc. Dell xps that is. but lets have it...

Im PC to the end, but macs do have a certain appeal. If you want a nice, sleek package, and you only really need what you can use on a mac (sure you can dual-boot or something, but if you want to game or anything....you would have a PC to begin with). Apparently macs are great for editing of all sorts, and personally, I love the feel of them.

PCs however, just seem to suit me and everyone knows why people back them. I build though, so I could put any OS on my computer with no problem, so this could turn into an OS battle.

Umm i say Mac. Because they dont get virus. i down music basically everyday and i went through a few dell xps motherboards because some how they got messed up. And the tech always said it was stuff of limewire. the video editing is sick too.
but we all know the best part of Macs is photo booth. While drunk or high it is easy for you and your friends to spend countless hours messing around taking pictures u will find a few days later and be like " seriously we did that and just laugh"
oh and yes i did just admit to buying a mac because of a cheap little built in camera ha

Viruses are like so 10 years ago, and for 13 year old girls and stupid kids. I confidently operate with Vista x64 with no virus software installed and I never have a problem.

I am a pro DJ that uses my laptop to run the music to my turntables (Serato scratch live, wont get into that) and the last thing I want is my laptop crashing in the middle of a set, that being said, windows computers run SO many background applications and etc that it brings the computer down with it, hell my gaming rig has 4 gigs of ram and one gig is always being used up. So i run a 2.4 ghz macbook for my live stuff, and I have an iMac for music editing, etc. Music making on a mac is soooo much simpler then on a vista or xp machine.

the only virus i've ever gotten was from the FBI because i fucked around with some security stuff in the states and the best they could do to my hacking setup was send me a virus, which took me less than an hour to fix.

oh, and macs can get viruses, as of about a year ago.

pc because i only build my own computers and im not a dumb fuck when i go on the internet (downloading unecessary bullshit then bitching about how bad pc's are when your dumb ass gets a virus)

pc's don't have as stable of an operating system as a mac, i have a pc, but in school, when i use a mac for design classes, i can have photoshop and illustrator and the internet open at the same time. My pc at home has more ram and a faster processor than the mac at school.

show me a mac that beats this:

ASUS Striker 2 Extreme Motherboard

Novint Falcon Joystick

Xbox 360 Wireless Controller w/Reciever

so yeah, i made a few software upgrades to my setup this week and last night i frapped with Assassin's Creed and hit a new personal record of 206 fps. i checke donline and most averages for frapping on Assassin's Creed are about 60-100 fps. also, i started 3D game programming a few months ago and having a setup like this makes it really easy to get the graphics i need in the first-person shooter i'm working on.

i also have a setup that i use just for hacking, it's a lot simple than my gaming setup but i run the same security that the CIA runs on all of its systems (i have an acquaintance that gives it to me as long as i don't try to fuck with the CIA) /claim. i'm a whitehate hacker though, so i don't get in trouble, and i have even made money fixing security issues for big companies and organizations.

PC for sure. my computer does crash every so often...but its because my hard drive is kind of fucked up. other than that, it runs absolutely fine, no viruses or anything, ever.

With everything upgraded, that beats the stuff that i understand in your little list there. But like noman said, different tools for different jobs.

nomansteven is right, but i think you've made it obvious that there's a lot you don't understand about my setup. apple can't compete.

that's exactly the way i feel, it's personal preference and each system has its specialties that fit your needs, it's not necessarily which ones are better but which ones work best for certain users

Mac's aren't for gaming...at all.

I got a Mac because I like the operating system better, they are better looking, I love Apple Support and I like Photoshop and Illustrator better on a Mac.

you could have just said you got a mac because you're a girl. picking computers based on aesthetics is pretty feminine, no offense.

I was just basing everything on numbers, one quad core vs 2 quad cores, 4gb of ram vs 32 gb of ram, 1tb of memory vs 4tb of memory, etc, etc. I know your computer is probably super 1337 for gaming, but thats not what macs are for.

if macs aren't for gaming, what would you need 32 gigs of RAM for? porn? 2 quad cores? more porn? 4 TB of storage? the most porn?

or are you making a movie with a running time of 8 hours? a video clip for every page on wikipedia?

nobody is ever going to push a mac pro to its limits, hell, i've never even pushed mine to it limits. but i guess if you've got a few grand to spare on something you don't need then you should buy a fully upgraded mac pro.

What would i do with 32gb of ram and an 8 core processor? I would run final cut studio 2, every program, at the same time. 4tb of HD is silly tho i'll admit that, id rather have 3 separate 1tb externals.

a fully upgraded Mac Pro is technically a supercomputer without the brains. nobody needs one. to max out your ram to 32 GB you'd have to be running 10 separate Crysis games at full speed at highest quality at the same time. whoever has maxed out their RAM to 32 GB on a Mac Pro is either retarded or is attempting to calculate the mechanics and physics of every single piece of matter in the northern hemisphere (which is i suppose just another way of saying retarded).

why would you run every program of final cut at the same time? you'd need a separate computer just to manage all the programs simultaneously, no human could do that.

Well FCP, color, AE, motion, and soundtrack pro could all be nice at the same time. Triple screen and you're good.

Im going to assume that you don't know very much about editing if you dont understand the importance of being able to run multiple programs at a time. Maybe not the entire suite but it is nice to be able to seamlessly switch between several programs (ie Final Cut, Livetype, and Soundtrack, etc... plus have Photoshop CS3 open if your doing frame grabs and an internet browser, etc..)

not that you couldn't do the same thing on a PC, just that you'd have to build it yourself instead of buying it from Apple.

oh and that guy said i was post-whoring the thread up, which is true, so i'll leave you guys with this:

Macs are a good computer for editing. It's also convenient to buy something pre-built rather than having to build it yourself. whether or not that justifies apple's ridiculous prices is up to the person buying it.

PCs are great for everything, but you have to do it all yourself if you want something good. Of course they are less expensive than a Mac but like i said before it's up to the Mac buyers to deal with that.

Windows sucks, OSX sucks, basically any OS that isn't created on a Unix base is shit. guaranteed the people who build OSX and Vista aren't using either of those OS's.

asian allen mentioned phillips and torx. the exact same thing was in my head earlier.

i'm out.

You dont need every fucking app running at one time on your computer you bunch of fucknuts. Maybe if you were running a server and several virtual computers at once that amount of capability might be feasable. Sure I can throw 16gb in my own system...but why would I need it?

As for the dual quads, that will only help in extreme cases, and before you talk about something as shitty as a multi cpu setup look up the Core i7 architecture.

And it wouldn't be too terribly difficult to build your own pc that could stomp that Mac out, and it would probably cheaper.

I just prefer PC's because they are so much easier to work with hardware wise. Macs are for people who aren't very computer savvy aka soccer moms whereas PC's are for people who actually know what they're doing

Vista/XP (i switch it up depending on what games i'm playing) on my gaming rig, Linux on my hacking rig. no OS is perfect but i find Linux is easily the best.
