I got a mac book pro less than a month ago and Ive been fairly dissapointed with it. there are something things that are much better than dells (video editing) but theres something that severely piss me off. One being downloading things. Why the hell is it taking a whole day to download one fucking song. Im using bit torrent and I tried to get the whole cd but that was forever long.. ( 1-2 weeks?) so I went back and tried it with just the song and it seriously took me the entire day. I could never get it to download past 10 kb/s and Im downloading something now and its saying 10 days remaining. This is a joke right? I never had anything take over a half hour on a dell.. what are my options?

ok, get an unraring/unzipping file (winrar, winzip etc....)

megadownload.com
albumwash.com

thats all you need

not as many people have macs, so you just have to make sure the torrents have a good seed to leech ratio before you try because the torrents wont cross interface.

More seeds = good but More seeds + few leacher = best

what client do you use, and what port is it configured to "listen" to. make sure that port is open. do you have a firewall? router?

make sure your using a direct ethernet connection for internet when your downloading torrents...if you try to only use airport, it takes hours to day longer

guys have of that shit went straight over my head.. my bro is the computer guy and im the math and science guy ha.. and hes in florida for the summer and told me just to suck it up..

What I do get is the few leachs the better, and Im using Isohunt to find and bit torrent to download.

also, not sure what port it is listening to, and Im using wireless internet not a direct hookup, -> not sure if I have the ethernet cable anymore. and Im not sure if I have a firewall up, I truely havent changed anything on this mac since i got it.. my knowledge is limited ha

that sucks, i have a macbook and can download a cd in a few minutes. make sure its in .zap or something.

my macbook is fast its a problem with your computer probably because when i first got my macbook it sucked and was slow so i took it back and now its fast.

Get Transmission or Azureus . Much better than the original BitTorrent client.

You want lots of Seeders. Don't go for the S1 - L0 though, go for the S500 - L200, or if possible, S500 - L10 or something.

Get a wired connection.

Bittorrent clients (programs) are set to use ports 6881-6999 as default. To open up those ports on your Mac, do the following.

1. Open System Preferences.

2. Click Sharing.

3. Select the Firewall tab.

4. Click the "New"... button.

5. Click the popup menu in the dialog that appears, and choose Other....

6. In the port Number, range, or series field, enter 6881-6999.

7. Name is whatever you want in the name field

8. Click OK.

I think my mac is different than yours.. when I open up sharing there isnt a firewall tab..?

Mac's allow incoming connections by default. You don't need to mess w/the firewall. The reason your torrents are slow is b/c of who you're downloading from. It has nothing to do w/your laptop.

Your router might be blocking the incoming port. That'll reduce the number of people who can connect and download from you. Your sharing will go down and your download speed will go down. That's the only real thing that could be happening.

If its exactly 10 KB download all the time then its the software. Some torrent downloading programs require you to purchase it or there is a 10kb download limit. I would google azureus and download that for your torrents.

If its still 10KB then you'll need to tell us what kind of router you have or more details cause you'll need to forward the ports.

no there is no limit cause right now its going at 30 kb but still slow.. and how do I figure out what router im using?

definatly not the mac's fault (at least, it doesnt sound like it). go for torrents with a lot of seeders. even if there are ltos of leachers, it will still be faster than a torrent with no leachers and fewer seeders.

i installed windows on my mac (so i have a mac part of my hard drive, and a windows part, and i can boot into either). downloading torrents on both mac and windows is exactly the same for me (speed-wise i mean). i use azureus on both.
