mac or pc

PC all the way i tried a mac a couple years back and the thing fucking sucked i couldnt get used to the settings and shit and for me its must to kno eveything about MY computer

 
The ironic thing is that a lot of the software that's made exclusively for PC (especially games) is developed on Macs.

personally i hate apple as a company, of course i hate microsoft as well... but PCs are great running linux or bsd. macs are also ok for your less computer-saavy user that just doesnt want to dick around with shit.

 
Since OSX is Unix-based, it's amazingly stable compared to Windows. And also because it's Unix-based it's attracted a lot of free-lance programmers so there's a bunch of really useful free software out there for Mac.

I'm a seasoned PC user and I just got my first Mac and I love it. I try to find any excuse to use my Mac instead of my PC.

^ yea actually to be honest, I think that the windows kernel is much cleaner compared to that darwin bullshit that apple calls 'their' technology (dirtied up BSD). I have had windows boxes up for indefinite amounts of time (6+ months). Not that OS 10 can't do that, i'm just saying stability isn't a factor considering that poor coding can occur on either OS.

 
hmm seeing as this is the media forum im guessing you dont want a computer to 'dick around with' ... in this case, and if its what you want one for as in video/media editing, then mac is the ONLY choice. ANY ski movie you have seen will have been made using Final Cut Pro and a G5. the only option for serious editors. Having said this, the new Imac G5 is so ill its incredible and sooo much better than ANY PC, especially the gimmicky new ones with 'microsoft media center' or whatever its called. buy a tv!!!

mac - always used a mac (except at skool) pc wouldnt be bad if theyd get over having the screen and computer as seperate components but i find macs way easier to use. its tru though that most softwear is developed for pcs its annoying

our pc died. i told my dad to get a mac. he called his friend whos a professional video editor and he said get a mac. he called my uncle whos a computer genius and asked him how to fix it, and he said get a mac. friday i was explaining to my computer science teacher why i couldnt do my homework cause my computer died, and he said get a mac.

he's been wondering if programs like excell work on macs, because he transfers data from his laptop he uses for work and our home computer.

anyone have any propaganda on macs to help me persuade him?

if you are a gamer though, pc has way more variety althouth there are version of pc games for mac.

i want to get a mac for university but im so much more familiar with a PC

why is it that apple has lower specs compared to PC's?

there good comps run at 1.8 ghz compared to 3.4 ghz u can get in a PC

600mhz fsb while pcs can get 800

is there processor twice as supioror or what

The reason there stats are lower is because they run completely different than pc's. The G5 is the fastest computer made for consumer purchase.

ya, macs processing preforms differently so the speeds are not the same. A mac processor takes bigger bunches of information at a slower speed while a pc processor takes small amounts of information really fast. Heres an example to help explain. You have a group of people. Everybody gets into a large van and heads to the next town (mac). In the other town there is another group of people. But they only have a two seater sport car. The car has to go back and forth mutiple times at a fast speed (pc) while the van (mac) can carry everyone in one trip. This is why a mac is faster in rendering media.

i've had an ibook an imac and now the new imac g5 they all run nasty my new imac is the best yet it never f's up on me never had a real problem with macs. I book g4's are cool but u gotta go for the p-book

I wish you people would stop making claims about things you know next to nothing about. For one even PCs running fragmented xp partitions (without any malware of course) can compete with a fresh out of the box comparible mac. And no, all the major, major (i'm not talking newspaper editors) designers, 3D jockeys, and CAD architects use PCs running windows, *gasp* believe it or not, it's true. Don't get me wrong, I think Macs are great for most image / video editors, it's just that you can't make claims like their the greatest thing since twintips. I'm sorry newschool_jibber but your analogy of the competing technologies is fairly generic IMO. I'm wondering if you even know what CISC or RISC stand for...

(and yes I currently have a G3 & a G4 as part of my collection - but no Apple OS)

 
^acually yes I do CISC means Complex Instruction Set Computers and RISC means reduced instruction set computer. Mac computers are the main users of a RISC chip while pc are mainly based on CISC processing. And my explaination of how the processors work is vague but still accurate. Its the main idea of the difference between em. Its the easiest way to explain it and people will get. If you have an easier example to use go ahead but mine gets the idea out.

oh ya I forgot to ad. Professional editing companies do use macs. I dont know wat ur talking about when they dont. Many hollywood movies are done on macs. They have entire networks of g5s rendering the video. And also the main computers used in architecture are macs. Go down to your local architecture firm and ask what they use. Yes they will have a few pc's but most likely all the architects prefer to use a mac.
