MAC conundrum???

so i want to buy a new mac so i was going to go with a macbook pro with most upgrades but then i checked out the prices of a macbook and imac and i came to the conclusion that for the same amount as a decked out macbook pro i could get the black macbook and the 24 inch imac with upgrades for the same price!!! so what are u think about i am leaning towards the macbook and imac combo what are u guys feelin??

save even more money by buying the middle level macbook and just upgrading the hard drive. the other way, youre just paying for the color...

i have a macbook pro on which i edit, its pretty damn awesome. i also have a new imac as well, but editing on the macbook is actually better. i would get the macbook pro.

If you buy an iMac and a macbook, sure you'd have 2 computers, but they'd be less powerful than your macbook pro. Personally, I'd go with the MBP because it'll allow you to edit video much more fluently. And if you can, just get an external monitor so you're not stuck on that "small" 17" screen. The iMac and macbook are two computers, sure, but they are not as performing as what you'd get with the MBP.

This is ridiculous. iMacs are VERY capable machines. Get a midrange model, upgrade RAM and HD yourself and spend the savings on ski trips next year.

if you're serious about video, mac pro is the way to go. slightly more expensive in the short term, but you can upgrade the hell out of it.

you'll be able to keep a mac pro powerfully current for about twice as long as any of their other computers, for not much more money up front.

I have a macbook and with the upgrades it is the same as a macbook pro, just being a little bit smaller. Bigger is not always better in this situation. It's small and powerful, just what you need.

Dude you're disregarding the MAIN difference between the macbook and the macbook pro. That is, the video card. In the macbook it's a crappy integrated X3100 card with 144 mb of shared memory, whereas its a dedicated NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT with either 256 or 512 mb. Clearly, if your point is not game-playing or video-editing, the macbook's card is decent and able to do pretty much anything else reasonably. But for HD video editing, I'm sorry, but the macbook sucks compared to the graphics card from the MBP.
