Wanting to buy the new pro...I want to set it up with the i7 2.2 ghz processor....7200 rpm ATA rive...

Wondering if you guys think this is a good setup for video editing and graphic design......

I cant decide whether i want to upgrade the RAM or not...Also Wondering if the Hi-Res Gloss screen is worth the extra $$$$$$..

Hey...! pleaase help me out....If i get the right one i could crank out some stuff yall like!

thx for any help, and any time u spend readin this!

It's not like a better graphics card is gonna make your edits better. The editing process will just be faster.

Anyway, sounds like a killer set-up. I'm not too much into the tech stuff, but it's better than mine, which I like (just photo though, no video )

I'm not an expert but that sounds pretty worth it. 4 gb's might be enough now but as technology advances I'm sure you will be wanting more.

graphics cards don't do much at all for video editing, its all processor and RAM. video cards are more important for gaming and 3d animation and shit. I'd say if you have the cash for the 8gb of RAM and hi-res screen, do it. My buddy has the high res screen on his 17 inch and its fucking nice.

yeah? a noticeably big difference? the hi - res?

i think i will go for the 8gb Ram too....still not sure tho....The main thing pressin me towards it is that fact that if i want to upgrade later....The after market may be cheaper for the 2x4's but Ill have to discard my 2x2's ...or just store em away until they became worthless....

its like maybe 50-60 bucks cheaper to upgrade after, apple use to charge like 400 bucks for RAM upgrade but now that its under 200 id just do it. the high res is nice, i like it alot. i also have a 27" imac so high res is my jam

Do not pay Apple that much money for 8GB of RAM, you can do it yourself for much, much, much cheaper and it will not void the warranty.

Go to: http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Other World Computing/1333DDR3S08S/

The great thing about this site (which I assure you is 100% fucking legit) is that they will offer rebates for your original RAM, hard drives, etc. and they sell quality stuff. Do the hard drive and RAM yourself and save a bundle. With their DIY videos you basically just have to be able to read and/or use a screwdriver.

I DO recommend the hi res screen though. It is absolutely worth $150 for that upgrade, the .1 GHz change to that processor might not be though. I doubt you'd notice much other than you smaller bank account.

im trying to decide whether upgrading the ram on my comp from 4 to 8gb for around 70 is worth it and whether a 120gb ssd for $180 would be better than my current drive if i've got all of my footage on an exernal drive. any help here NS?

4 to 8 GB is absolutely worth it, especially if you are anything like me and run all kinds of memory intensive shit at once. The SSD's are so expensive right now that I've been pushed to wait for the future. My drives have been plenty durable and fast for me.

Sounds like we're in the same situation!

Just decided on:

15 inch MBP.

-2.2ghz i7

-8 gb ram

-500GB @ 7200 rpm

-high res glossy

Ordering tonight. Could not be more stoked.

sweet man....Did you catch Smail's post up top bout the RAM? ? somethin to think about...i think its like 4 posts up.....But ya....Im gonna order tonight or tomorrow...Im getting pumped too..def gettin the Hi res....8gb...2.2 i7...7200! ! going to be a beast

you might as well save 500 bucks and get the i5, 4gb and 5400 hd IMO upgrade your own ram for 100 bucks and then if you really wanna upgrade the HD you could, but i think high end HDs are pointless.

difference as in Hardrive storage? or amount of heat the 7200 creates...cause the 5400 and 7200 are the same price with different storing capabilities

well people buy 7200 for faster HD speed but it really barely makes a difference, just like the i5 and i7

what is aperature and is it worth it to buy pre-installed? i use lightroom currently and know nothing about aperature's capabilities. is this anything like it or is it like the imovie of photo editing software?

just got mine last week except 17". super sick computer. i run both final cut pro for school and adobe premiere pro for shits and giggles (cuz it was free) and after effects and it handles it like a boss.

I would seriously consider upgrading to an ssd instead of the processor. With a student discount it is only $90, and then just grab an external. I asked the av guy at my school before I graduated and he said at that it would make a huge difference. I'm still trying to decide between this and an iMac tho.

Unless you know how to read scopes and/or have an external monitor, get the non-glossy screen. Seriously, glossy screens suck.

the sdd's don't make THAT much of a difference, like you computer turns on like 1 second quicker and thats the only benefit.

I wish iMacs had matte screens. Glossy ones that are too bright give me headaches (on the iMacs te lowest setting is still really bright). Also @eheath, he made it seem like it was a very worthwhile investment. Is it fair to say that they make more of a difference than the processor, or is it Just something that will make an already fast computer slightly faster, but not

imac i beautiful...and thats about it...Doesnt get as hot as the pro...But think about it...you can get a HD display desktop..hook it to ur pro...and you got a portable computer..with a sick setup at home when u want...I had the imac...But noticed that being portable has so many advantages...Dont listen to the apple lovers...go with portability
