M1 Skis? thoughts

Came across these guys making all aluminum skis (M1 Skis | Carve Your Own Lines.) they claim that its revolutionary technology. The website basically claims that their skis are better in every way without really explaining how. Personally I am highly skeptical, I find it hard too believe that the performance boost would be super significant. can anyone think of why these would make a huge difference. they seem to only be focusing on carving & racing skis so maybe someone with some more experience there would know?

Did I mention they cost $5000USD, ironically, in the FAQ section of their website they say "M1 is for everybody"

There is no way the edges hold up to damage. If aluminum edges worked well they would have been adopted by the industry before we were born.

It’s cool to see a company doing something different but the price is asinine. They’re gonna sell 3 pairs and one will actually be skied. Once.

yeah 5k for a pair of skis is fucked. I don't care how good they are. that's enough money for 10 pairs "composite skis" as M1 calls them. Seems like a a new toy to amuse aspen trust fund goobers.

M1: made of silver spoons, for people with silver spoons.

cnc machining this is absolutely ridiculous and i am really doubtful of aluminum’s ability to flex and be damp like wood. $5k for skis that will probably carve worse than stöckli or whatever

Ouch.

They gotta charge that much to run that massive CNC machine and pay the engineers, operators and programmers.

They probably use T3031 Aluminum. Lots of gun parts are made with that. I don't know how that would be better edge material would be better than standard steel edges. Unless you want to slide some aluminum rails! Anyone want to buy a 5K ski and test that out?

they are probably just a niche ski for the dudes that can never get enough of bragging about their skis

god I love ridiculously overpriced and over engineered products that try and fix problems that don't exist. big ups to this dude for figuring out another way to fleece rich morons

Renoun said that the non-newtonian whatever they used in their skis was revolutionary too and they’re for sale ?‍♂️

I have a buddy who bought some and raves about them. He has more money than he knows what to do with. Has 8 pairs of skis all around ~900 all with pivot 15's. Buys a few every year and sells them at the end of the season. Hasn't bought me anything yet. ?
