M&A stoke

after scrolling through this thread a bit id say that ya'll need to stop gearwhoring so hard and get out and shoot some photos. who the fuck cares what you're holding in your hands - its all about the damn photo. why dont you all post what youve recently learned, share some shooting tips and insights, maybe the last time you fucked up out shooting and why. thats what we should really be stoked on, learning something new thats gonna take our photography up a level. get a camera with some decent glass and forget the rest - who really cares who has the freshest leica or fastest lens. this thread has turned into such a dick measuring contest its ridiculous. share some real stoke boys.

its all this kids fault

Considering that we have a 'best photography thread' for when we take a killer photo, this sorta has become the 'i got a new camera/camera gear accessory/lens thread a lot of the time.

And you know? That's not all that bad. We're all gear whores to a certain point in here, and that's just sorta how shit goes. Sure, it's a bit obnoxious to see Thomas and Co. flaunt expensive cameras and such, but you know? Who cares. they're stoked. This is the place for them to share that stoke that they have new tools for their art.

Overall, you are right. There is a lot of gear whoring, and perhaps it should be turned down a notch, but don't rain on someone elses parade. Contrary to much belief, most of us rich white kids who ski actually do work hard to save up for our toys, and I don't think any of us in here just buy gear for the sake of it and never use it. Shit, if it didn't kill my wrist, I'd have my camera duct taped to it at all times, ready to go. hooking myself up to charge overnight. Many of us feel this same way.

I mean, yes, there should be more insights and shooting tips, but this thread is about stoke overall. There probably SHOULD be a tips/tricks thread for taking photos, where us who are experimenting or coming up with 'life hacks' for photography can share our ideas, but then again, that's like a magician sharing his tricks to a certain extent, and many of us (including myself) dont' always want to divulge that, and there's no obligation to either.

So with that said, keep up the stoke folks no matter what it is. But again, on the note of frugality, it's absolutely fair to roll your eyes every time Thomas gets another fucking Leica, or Jamie gets another red ring'd son of a bitch chunk of glass. I'd expect (and hope for) the same if I were to ever throw down for another 1D "motherfucker!" or the Hassy F-Distagon "Fuck you, dickhead" 30mm ;)

Pretty much what Sean said, this isn't the post your photos thread, new gear gets people stoked just as much as anything else.

And I don't know about you, but I own 2 bodies and 1 lens, doesn't seem like much gear whoring to me

Woo! just ordered an OM-1n Black, a 28mm f3.5, and a 135mm f3.5. Also a SMC 135mm f3.5 for my ME

I also got some solid gifts this morning...

Stoked I finally found a style of ski filming I'm satisfied with. Really hyped on how this batch of footage turned out (from PCMR opening weekend)

And anti stoke. Due to a mistake on my part and a lack of communication on keh's part. the m6+lens i ordered almost a month ago just arrived back there for processing and refunding.

fuck

For those interested in how the Speedbooster performs,

Taken with the Speedbooster on a gh3 with a Rokinon 85mm@F2

For the cost of the lenses I'm pretty impressed.

can someone explain to me how this works if a 11-16 wouldn't work on a full frame camera, but you can get the FOV of full frame 11mm-16mm on m43? So theoretically could you use an EF-S lens and get full frame FOV with the speedbooster? (assuming an EF to m43 version comes out)

I believe Metabones has been grossly misimplying that it turns any lens into a full frame equivalent(while on crop). This is only the case with the 1.6x~ sensors, NOT the gh3, with the gh3(and any other 2x crop camera) it simply becomes the equivalent of a 1.6x~, e.g canon apsc, though it still gains the extra stop of light. I'm not positive I'm right on all this, but pretty sure.

Yeah I totally brain farted on that one, super easy to think "speed booster = full frame"

So yeah, I bet the speed booster on the gh3 with a 11-16 is awesome.

The voigt 1.5 asph, it renders exactly like a pre asph lux, is sharper than a v2/v3 and any cron older then a v5 and cost over a grand less. This will tide me over till I can get funds together for a modern 50 lux asph

Yeah, it's a sigma. But it was 200$ so fuck you guys, i'm pumped haha.

Also, for 70$.

Next paycheque: Tokina 12-24 f4 and possibly a pair of t2i's.

Recommended this to a friend and he bought it. He's in love with it. I can't believe how big it is though. Probably wouldn't be my first choice for glidecam use

I'm not sure if this belongs here but I'm looking for a (first) 35mm film cam. I've toyed with film photography before with some of my dads old cameras, but I'm looking to get into it now. Anyone got any recommendations? I was thinking of getting an Olympus XA2, but I quite like having full manual control. I don't have all that much money though, which was why the XA2 seemed good.

Even though the conditions were pretty terrible for filming today, I'm excited by what I got. Really liked the vibe for an Instagram Edit (@jkauffman)

This is a cool thread that I didn't know existed.

Been filming some standard def recently which has been unbelievably fun. There's just this really raw feel of swapping out tapes and lugging around giant batteries which I've been enjoying. I can't wait to get my even shittier mini dv camera to play with and capture from.

Also scooped up a Pentax Spotmatic SPII and a 135mm f/2.5. Been shooting black and white 400 ISO, but I haven't gotten anything developed yet. Back at school I have my 50mm f/1.4 which I've been using with an adapter for my DSLR but I'm looking forward to throwing it on the Pentax body. Maybe I'll get some rolls of color film. I don't know.

Cameras – standard def, HD, digital, film; they're all damn fun.

No way you can zone focus that at 2.8, and makinas are very expensive the get repaired and can only be done in japan last I checked. Don't buy it.

How the fuck do you guys seem to know everything about every camera ever... I believe it's just the glass that covers the rangefinder that is broken, though. I googled about replacing that and some dude got a microscope slide cut to fit one.

Still, if something like that is broken, something else is probably wrong. The Rangefinder probably is out of alignment from the impact, it is pretty sensitive in the first place. If you want a makina, get one through Japan Camera Hunter or wait for one on RFF in really good shape.
