M&A stoke

Some bitch seriously did go through this thread and downvote every post. I'm on page 7 in negating this foul action.

"highest sync speed is 1/2000"

Well that's awesome, electronic shutter?

Would this not make it easy as balls to overpower the sun in a lot of situations? f4 1/2000 iso 100 on a sunny day would expose correctly wouldn't it? and with such a wide aperture the flash would have quite an effect.

Hyped on how some shots came out tonight

New computer stoke:

desk_zpseb3c72e2.jpg

Mac Mini 2.6 Quad core i7

- 1TB HD + 128GB SSD, Fusion

- 16GB RAM

2 Dell u2312hm IPS displays

Logitech G700 mouse

Colormunki Display Calibrater

Im thoroughly impressed by this Mac mini. I wanted to upgrade from my MBP to a desktop setup, but didn't want to deal with dual screens with an iMac, and MacPro was not an option. Figured I'd invest in some decent displays and upgrade the computer as needed. I do design work so Im running Ps, Ai, Id at all times, plus some work in Lightroom and some light gaming (SC2 medium quality). Haven't had a chance to do any video editing yet, so I don't know how the graphics card holds up to it, but for everything else its killer.

I ordered the 1TB, 4GB RAM model and installed RAM and added a second SSD, to avoid Apple's outrageous upgrade prices.

Boots in roughly 8 seconds, ~15 seconds with Ps, Ai, and Id on login.

How do you like the displays so far? Is the dual wide-screen too wide for long sittings of design work? I'm looking into upgrading my monitor setup right now and running dual wide-screens looks like it would give too much horizontal space with not enough vertical.

I love them so far. Sans the bleed on the right one, I may send it back for a replacement.

Those monitors are 16:9, but you could get 16:10s and pick up some more vertical space if you felt like you needed it. Or you could rotate the screens if you really want some vertical space:

I like having all of the horizontal room. I run separate apps in each so I can just drag stuff back and forth. Or I'll split the secondary screen with a browser window and a finder/Bridge window while I work in the primary screen.

My advice is to go to a computer store and sit in front of a bunch of stuff and see what feels best. Some like duals, some like single large screens, whatever floats your boat. Take in to account the size of the desk and room its going in also. A 27" display will seem a lot bigger in a smaller room.

went hiking with the dogs and left the parking lot with my spotmatic/super tak 28mm on the roof of my car. :(

came back 20 minutes later and it was still in the parking lot with a scuffed lens cap and no other apparent damage. stoooooooked.

Yeah, I'm torn between 16:9 and 16:10 and leaning more toward the 16:10 to give a little more vertical. I used to run a 23" widescreen extended from a 15" laptop and then moved to a 27" and laptop, but found that it was a bit too much distance to cover constantly for long editing sessions (editing video, would full-screen my program monitor on the laptop and have all content/editing on the 27"). My neck started getting sore so I moved to only the 27" monitor, which has been nice, but the actual display isn't high enough resolution and is horribly inaccurate in handling colors (just a consumer Samsung Syncmaster from Best Buy). I'm pretty sold on Dell displays at this point and am looking between a 27" 16:9 or 30" 16:10. There seem to be a lot of editors that run dual 27", but that seems a bit excessive to me.

I wish there was a professional media retailer in the region so I could go check out different options in person, but the closest that would have this caliber/size display would probably be B&H in NYC...(currently based in NH)

Does anyone have any experience with 27" vs. 30" displays for any type of creative work?

oh, also running everything on a 6.5 ft. wide desk, so there is enough room for anything. (a few things have changed since this was taken, but you get the idea)

Man i love two 27" I have my entire preview on one screen and everything else on the left, i like it alot.

Well here's my setup. Left is a shitty Samsung 1050p monitor, that I usually just leave itunes on. Then is my Shimian/Catleap 27" 2560x1440 monitor. Anyone bitching about low resolution on 27" monitors needs to snag one of these. 1080p is fucking pussy shit, these are crisp, spacy, and $350. I'm attaching two screenshots to show you how much space I have.

(these may not be 100% 2560x1440, I'll upload full res if you want them somewhere)

That after effects one is fucking crazy... So want one of those and a decent desktop, but I really don't have a 8/900 lying around when my current laptop, even though it is only 720p, still works(ish), takes 25 seconds+ to create a new blank image in photoshop, gets pretty fucking annoying, not to mention being about 10 different things wrong with it.

Also, ended up balancing my glidecam perfectly, and then realising I had the cap on... DERP.

Luckily didn't take long to fix, I can't even begin to imagine how eheath manages to ski with an fs100+glidecam 4000, I'm using a 1000 and t2i+tamron and I definitely won't be getting more than 5 minutes, still, it's not too bad. Also have no clue how anybody could manage to balance it without the fine adjustment knobs. Thank you m&a for constantly saying to get the HD to everyone. Got it balanced again now though, been trying to do those shallow dof shots similar to the 4 hours with simen video, obviously not as good haha.

Luckily came up with an ingenious way to balance the glidecam, woulda been a lot harder without this IMO, and it's a perfect fit. Given that pretty much everyone on here has one I'm surprised nobody suggested it to anyone(the handle is attached to the handle).

^thats not how you all balance you glidecams...? Oh and I've never understood how you could use one, but then chnage lenses on the hill if you wanted to do a normal/tele follow?

I think changing lenses on the hill would be a complete bitch, but zooming isnt out of the question(as it doesn't add weight, just puts off the forward balance) so you could just adjust the micro adjustment dial. Spoke to wheatgrass about it and he said he sometimes did adjustments on the lift if he wanted to zoom.

^lol, that just seems like such a hassle, but yeah it looks good I guess. Idk, I'm just WAY to ADHD to video, it why I've always stuck with photography.

If you're a filter you spend a lot on gear, mics etc. and if you're a photographer you spend a lot on lenses, flashes Etc. results in a lot of expense if you're into one of them.

Unfortunately I enjoy attempting both, and it doesn't bode well for my pocket haha. But at least it's not a wasted hobby, + if I sold my entire setup right now I'd have hundreds more than I paid for it , so it's not too bad

I mean, you just adjust it. After while you get very used to it, i usually just adjust mine on the first lift ride rather than in the parking lot. Granted, its usually already pretty close but the 11-16 and 17-50 are like 1lb difference and the fact my glidecam is never perfectly balanced makes it a little less work too haha

got a chance to shoot "pole fitness" for a clothing company today. 5 girls all doing crazy shit on a pole in yoga clothes. it was nice pics soon i think

Purchased a 5d3/24-70 2.8/600ex-rt, and found an apartment in Seattle with vandersteeze, pretty much going to be a mini photo lab

Get a drumscanner so you can scan the film of NS'ers for a minimal fee.

My French connection does this but he is slower than a herd of snails traveling through peanut butter because he is always making love to various women.

I just picked up a couple of these:

I am going to San Diego next Tuesday and will try to get as many pics as possible. Hopefully the black and while will hide the fact that I don't have a clue what I am doing. Also going to try to get my dad to pick me up a few extra rolls. He is buying a new camera soon and we are going to see who can get better pictures in San Diego. Stoked!

My setup is a Canon EOS Rebel 2000 with a 28mm-80mm lens.
