Here's a few ideas i have for rules:
no slow motion beyond whats fluid (40% @ 60fps)
interlaced footage MUST be deinterlaced
no cropping or smoothcam on 720p shots (and no cropping beyond 720 on 1080p shots)
music must be approved before the edit?
No half assing, if theres a problem you see in your edit you have gotta fix it (not just leave it because your lazy)
why dont we just make the rule NO go pro
no titles on your edit (that will be put in by master editor)
export in 24p, shoot in 24p and 60p that is conformed to 24p
all cameras used must be approved
no shaky shots (must be using tripod or some sort of stabilizer)
Very limited/no "joking around" in the edits (i hate it when i see an edit that is half people doing spread eagles off the side of a catwalk just for fun)
avoid specific editing "themes", like doing lots of split screen transitions, B&W, etc.
no bad transitions (you know what i mean; no "page turn")
No logos or anything in the segments. i think this is a given, but a lot of people will put logos and stuff at the start of their edits.
Footage MUST be color corrected (not graded or anything, just fixed up a little)
no super dramatic color grading (it would make the segment lose "flow with the movie)
good audio (no audio the whole time from a t2i mic of a follow cam of a jump, etc.)
once everyone's role decided, they MUST be committed to produce the BEST QUALITY edit they can.
no sketchy computer stabilization (sometimes smooth cam can kinda fuck up the shot)
limited fisheye
stick to your plan (if you say you'll be shooting park, shoot park, if you say you'll be shooting BC, shoot BC. if this doesn't happen we wont get the mixture of styles that we have figured out before hand)
avoid auto exposure (or auto anything)
if a shot turns out crappy, even if the rider does a pretty dope trick, dont include it in your seggy
make sure shots are in focus (pretty much a given)
try to make some plans with the shooting (don't just think, im skiing a lot this season, ill shoot whenever)
IF you are low on shots, some one like will who can contribute footage but not a segment can give you some footage
there ya go, i could go all day, and i know some of these are common sense, but i see them in a lot of edits...
