M&A Movie 2011/2012 Official Thread

For this project to work out, everyone needs to recognize their strengths and weaknesses, and be open about them. If someone is unexperienced, or not particularly skilled at color correction, have someone very experienced do it for them. also, i was thinking that we should embrace our strengths, for instance, i shoot TONS of timelapses and am quite experienced at them (get ready for my summer 2011 reel, hopefully will turn out well!) so if anybody wants a timelapse in their segment and aren't experienced with timelapses, i can hook them up. same goes for color correction, titling, after effects (though this should in general be avoided), etc.

I agree but IMO I still think 1 person should do the titles and graphic animation because even giving everyone a certain font still leaves such a wide variety in text presentation.

I suck dick at color correction, all I do on sony vegas is "convert studio rgb to computer rgb" then play with the Gamma, saturation contrast and then do some levels and curves. I can't do any times lapse b/c I have a nikon D70 (I have researched it and its pretty much impossible). I'm decent at intro's and graphic design, If you need a title that isn't actually a font I can hook you up (I can actually do them in ps with the pen tool) I could also make the cover (if we were to do a cover thing) I'm decent at photography so could take some stills. My music library is quite large so would definitively be able to throw some ideas around for songs. My actual footage is decent and will be improving in the 2011 season for sure. Also I know a lot about purchasing a domain & setting up hosting for next to nothing, if we wanted a simple page with a title and video embed (just an idea)

raw segments are going to be submitted, then some people will do color correction/grading/titles/graphics all that jazz

aight, im heading on a trip for a couple weeks so i wont be contributing to this nearly as much. when i get back and we know everyone who's interested in the project i'll make the cult and organize the rules posted by everyone in this thread with Jamie (you said you were working on a list) and get everything going! Peace M&A, ill check in some, but not too frequently.

that'd be awesome!

ok here are some rules that we've come up with

-Shots must be steady (please use a tripod/glidecam/flycam/rig/or a hell of a steady hand please!)

-Segments must be 3-5 minutes long. no longer than that please.

-Final export must be h.264/720 24p

---this means your camera must shoot 720p HD or greater

-include an interview answering the following questions:(This interview time does not count towards edit time!)

1.) What's the setting of your segment? If there is more than one please address all.

2.) Introduce your riders.

3.) What do you like about your home mountain?

4.) How long has your crew been skiing together?

5.) What motivates you and your friends to get out?

6.) How did weather/injuries/other obstacles effect your season?

7.) Any additional comments?

-b-roll,crashseggies can be submitted in a separate video

i would love to contribute in some shape or form, not too sure how much i will be filming, but i have a big list of music that is dying to be used in an edit/movie

So will we be able to get footy this coming winter and then submit it, or take the footy that we have now and submit it?

i can get all this together except for the interview at this point.. we live in different states but will be moving back to school in a few weeks

i definitely want to film a part, im from NH. is there gonna be certain people who film BC only, and urban only, and park only? or can you mix it up if its all in the same area? great idea though! im stoked!

yah we are and who ever asked about roles and what you can secifically film I all of that will be discussed and decided when the cult is up

People should also submit a screenshot/photograph of each rider along with a name for titling/crediting purposes.

yes just to make it easier on whoever is doing all the titles and credits! and if they have different clothes throughout the edit also include that.

I'm from NH as well and will be submitting something, if you ski at Gunstock/Loon/SR/Waterville maybe I can film a little if you need someone too

Just wondering but who here is good at skiing urban and able to make a good segment for it or are we just going to to do park and BC?

If I'm not mistaken I think I know why but not totally sure it was to do with being on windows and not having cinema tools or whatever Mac users use to conform to 24p. He made a thread on it a while ago then again I'm by no means an expert so I may be wrong.

You can deal with it just fine in windows. Call me stupid, but I don't like 24p that much though. 60p slowed to 40% is too slow for my eyes and 24p looks so quick to me. Whatever though, I will do this in 24p.

Threads... And "conforming" is actually a process that takes the 60 fps and plays it at 40% speed at 24 fps. If you shot in 60p and do not want to slow down your footage, all you have to do is render in 24 fps, this will just drop 36 fps. Hope that makes sense. "conforming" is often misunderstood..

Shooting in Washington.

Plenty of Park

A couple side country booters

Hopefully urban

Really hopefully an out of state trip to get access to really big jumps. Maybe Sun Valley or Whistler.

Tuckermans segment would be legit. I'll be shooting in VT as well. Mostly Mount Snow probably. I'm sure theres a few of us shooting there or nearby actually. If we could organize a few days throughout the season where a few of us got together and shot some good riders, I bet a pretty banger segment would come of that.

midwest park, mostly marquette mountain and cannonsburg, also urban in marquette and grand rapids, mi. maybe some bc at bohemia

Yeah check my videos for a clip of it, this year I wanna bring all my gear and my good camera and make something legit out of it, hopefully some dubs.
