losing your skis in pow

has that been a probably for anybody if they were riding steeps or somethin in deep pow and they wiped out and lost a ski, or are they usually easy to find?

Usually they're pretty easy to locate, but sometimes they get pretty deep. The worst is getting one caught up so it pops off and stays but you keep going...for a ways, that shit is a pain in the ass. They do make things called 'powder cords', they are these bright orange or red shoelace type critters (normail right colored shoelaces would work fine) you attach them to one side of your brakes and then stuff the rest inside your pant cuff, so when your ski falls off it has a fatty bright streamer, but those suckers are pains in the ass, they always fall out and shit, but I guess they're a good idea...mostly old men use them around here to try and look cool (the same ones that carry a shovel and never touch the BC and rarely go off trail).

never heard of someone losing a ski in fluffy stuff, but i suppose its possible i guess. not really though...

It happened to me a couple of times, although fortunately I've found my skis every time. But it sucks when you crash and you get up and just have no idea where your skis are.

yeah, has happened to me. it really sucks.

You know that milk you had with your cereal this morning? Well, I pissed in it. PASTEURIZE THAT BITCH.

ha, one time i ate shit and my fucking glove got burried and i couldn't find it...that sucked.

the worst was at jackson hole i ejected in a bowl, fell about 500 vertical, spent an hour climbing up and then searching for my ski forever

Ya, i live in the east, and there was a little kicker we built into this powder, and I bailed it in the hip deep powder, and it took so long looking for my ski. You just gotta figure out about where you lost it, and then drag your feet along the ground in that area. Took like 20 minutes. Sucked so bad.

like every powder day last year you see someone digging in the snow with a pole. The best way to do it is to take you're other ski and slice it through the snow perpendicular to the slow starting from just above where you think it came off, and just go down the mountain like that. It's the fastest way i've used.

my friends mom who free skis good for being a mom was off trail and popped a ski and couldnt find it, she looked for like 2 hrs or more and just couldnt find it so left it on the mountain, reported it to lost and found in case someone found it

Oh man i had a buddy lose his skis off a 40 foot drop in vermont when we were skiing back country stuff on a trip. I went first and skied away from it, he went second and his skis came off almost right after he left the ledge. He landed on his boots and sunk right into the snow, it took us a good 15 mins to dig him out because he was so deep in powder. His skis ended up pretty fair ahead of him but luckily they left inprints in the snow so we just dug by the inprints. I love powder soo much.

yea i was up in whistler goin off some ice cliffs, i ate my face and i lost my beanie and new electrics. it sucked hardcore.

im an expert ski traker, im like those avalance dogs except i only find skis lost in powder. and whatever you do never leave without that ski, search all night if you have to. If you want to see how many skis get lost just go up any real ski mountain in ther summer, you find all sorts of equipment

yeah where i ski at, we are lucky to have more real snow than fake snow, so having any powder at all would be a day to remember forever.

I don't think people who ski pow all the time take it for granted at all. That's why we get so excited when it snows.

At fernie they have a map in guest services, they mark on the map where you lost your ski, and in the summer they'll go find it and send it back to you. So many skis go missing..

hey Alistair5...last time i checked if your friend were to have dropped a forty footer and land on his feet the forward momentum would have broken some legs buddy.

I took a cliff at Louise, my ski poped off and i bailed. I found one ski but was then chased by the patrole men because i was out of bounds.

There was not avi danger though.

Yes well possible. When you go real fast and it's steep. Your ski may travel forever underneath the snow. Happened to me in Chamonix two years ago. Looked for 2 hours until it got dark. Then skied down on one.

Put your binding on 14 - 17. You may well end up in hospital If you are incompetent or unlucky but, goddamit your skis will still be there.

yeah, just tie some red ribbon to your binding, then tuck it up your pant leg, if it pops off, the ribbon will stay above the snow...usually

yea its all about the ribbon. i lost one of my skis a coupple of years a go at big mountian and if i didnt have a ribbon i would never of found it cause there was three feet of visibility cause it was so dam foggy.

My friend jumped off a cliff with just his normal shoes on and was buried up to his head (he's over 6ft) and when a bunch of people pulled him out his shoes were still in the pow. When they dug his shoes out they were loaded with so much snow that they were hard as rock. It was pretty funny but better when he was dropping off the cliff on his skis.

In 1999 one of my friends lost a ski at thredbo on like the best powder day in about 5 years we had to look for like 3 hours and we couldnt find it anyhere, that sucked heaps.

ever wonder if iliterate people get the full effect of alphabet soup???

i've seen dudes jump off cliffs and lose there skis, land feet first and get stuck like...it def. happens when it's real deep...

yeah it happens to me at least a few times a season. this one will be different, because I will have actual fat skis, that I can put the din up to 14 on. the higher the din the less chance your skis are gonna pop off.

I searched for a ski i lost at stevens pass for like 3 hours last december after jumpin a cliff...i found it 100 feet below at the edge of another cliff. then i bought pwder cords and put the din way up

might as well start talkin...

not true heavymetalwinner...if the din on your skis only goes to 14 (say 6-14 or whatever) then the springs are totally maxed out and you can actually pressure release, where you just make a simple turn, it overloads the springs, and out you come at full speed....always set your din at least 1.5-2 points below the top setting on your skis (it can also happen the other way, where if your binding is set at full din the spring will lock up and wont release at all, ending up with you getting some nice scars in your knee after the surgery is over)
