Losing weight

Chubz and toasty both used to be fat, worthless, sacks of shit much like yourself but now and handsome and totally fuckable...winky face

I lost ton of weight a few years back. I did a lot of cardio for the first few months but shifted to muscle building eventually after I learned that muscle building burns fat for 24hrs while cardio is only about 2. Anyway with cardio, it's all about elevating your heart rate so do a lot of intervals of sprinting then jogging, sprinting and jogging. I did a majority of it on the treadmill. Egg whites and fruit for breakfast and chicken breast and broccoli for dinner and healthy meals in between. After gaining some weight back and slacking off, I then lost a lot again with kale shakes and hiking then went back to muscle building and have kept it off. If your interested, I can share more details upon request. The highest I weighed was 240 and the lowest in recent times was last year a sickly 155 so I'd be more than happy to share more..humble brags.

True story. It was bad.

Although I have gained a little bit of it back over the winter I'm still a lot smaller than what I was.

OP keep doin what you're doin. Shit sucks but it's worth it when the results come and the honeydips start noticing how you're not gross anymore you'll just wanna keep goin

Grilled chicken and leafy greens are your friends and water is your best friend.

When you're feeling like giving up and pigging out just remember why you started.

Also it will only get easier once the weather warms up more.

I lost 20lbs by not eating shit. Salads, cut down portions. Still drink beers most days a week. Eat like a dick on the weekends. lol

100% the best site you should look at.

All advice on workouts, diet etc is absolutely spot on. Best bit is every things formatted as quite simple posters, and everything is bodyweight so you don't need to spend $$$ on gym membership.

I lost 65lbs hiking and watching what I ate. I owe a lot to kale shakes, going gluten free, and the rogan podcast for tips. I realized gluten was hurting my stomach, giving me leaky shits and causing inflammation.

i found paleo the way to go. weight just falls off you. just cut all the carbs and sugar and start eating loads of meat and vegetables. it will retrain your body to burn fat instead of carbs. that plus some weight lifting and cardio and your there. keep going your doing well.

i lost about 115 pounds in the past year and a half from about 300 to 185 now..

IIFYM is what work best for me, because i can still eat things i like on a regular basis!

moderation is key, PM me if you have some questions!

I lost 20 lbs in the past year. Don't really having left to lose. I use to be really built and had muscle too big for what I wanted. So I dropped 20 more lbs in muscle weight. Total 40lbs. Being big really isn't all that great.

You didn't lose 65 lbs because you stopped eating gluten. If I watch one more fat girl eat a gluten free pizza I'm gonna go insane.

I definitely have a gluten problem and so do a lot of people. I eat two pieces of pizza now, I'll shit out pellets in 20 minutes and feel full until monday. Yeah, lots of people fall for those mainstream diets. All that For me it's legit. Regular white bread these days is a far cry from multi grain healthy bread. You want to keep eating poor man's food, go ahead. Makes me feel inflamed. I know my body.

Oh yeah plus exercise and a balanced diet of course. Not just not eating gluten. Get carbs from yams, not pasta for example.

Well you can't lose weight eating American cheese sandwiches on white bread and cheese pizza. Direct your anger else where, that's healthier also.

You actually can, it's also been proven just for the sake of argument.

I suppose you can with heavy exercise and such but it'd be like taking 2 steps forward, 1 back. French fry when you should of pizza'd.

Yes. This is what I'm referring to. Gluten isn't likely making you fat, excess calories and lack of exercise definitely are. The new gluten craze has led to a plethora of completely unhealthy people turning to items like gluten free pizza and gluten free pancakes with light syrup in my wife's office and it's astounding to me that they think they're going to see results. I'm not suggesting that it's bad in any way, but it's direct correlation to weight loss is questionable at best. Simply by virtue of the foods gluten is found in, I feel like eliminating it from your diet would force you to eat quite healthily anyway. Honestly though, that uncontrollable shitting probably helps with weight loss too so it's not a total loss is it :D

One of the guys on our ski team had a serious gluten allergy, so we had to be careful to avoid an uncomfortable trip to the hospital when we ate out with him. It was way more serious than cramps and diarrhea unfortunately. Dude had it rough in my opinion, pizza and beer fucking rock.

Yeah I just avoid pizza and pasta all together. I don't go for the gluten free craze. Ground beef in a salad is slamming, fuck the bread. Breads and pastas are so empty it's worthless. A box of pasta is a dollar for a reason, poor man's food. We can agree on gluten free isn't the golden ticket and it does help eating a better diet. But, the fact it makes me feel bloated and shitty, can't avoid that either. For years I thought maybe I didn't handle dairy well. All along it was high gluten foods. Eat mostly natural foods is the way to go.

Isn't light syrup full of corn syrup? Light and fat free foods are a crock of shit. Plus the amount of gluten in beer is pretty minor, I think.

GLUTEN FREE DIET IS 100% BULLSHIT IN 99% OF PEOPLE.

The 1% have Coeliac disease.

Gluten free food has pretty much exactly the same calories as everything else.

People who are on gluten free diets to lose weight are almost always deficient in fibre, thiamine, calcium (no cereal -> no milk), B12, phosphorous, zinc and niacin.

Fibre is important for your digestive system, but it also protects against CHD, diabetes and certain cancers. People on GF diets get on average around 5g of fibre a day, non GF about 14g. The NHS recommend you 18g, if you're losing weight 18g should be firmly in your sights. Eat wholemeal bread, lots of oats etc.

Low calcium can lead to bone diseases.

The only reason people experience weight loss on a GF diet is that they cut out desserts and snacks. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think doing that is exclusive to people on a GF diet.

Bottom line is, if you haven't been told to by a doctor (like, a proper doctor, not Web MD), EAT GLUTENOUS FOOD. It's what foods you eat, not the name of the diet that will make a difference.

If you do, you're a retard.

Source: biochem parts of my degree, my sister and mother have coeliac. Fortunately I don't, it's hell.

People are such haters. I don't need to go to a doctor for him to tell me shit. I know my body. If I eat cheap ass pasta or bread i feel full for days. Not just a few hours. So uncomfortable. Most of the time leads to a diarhea or constipation. Only food that does that. I'm not 100% gluten free, I eat clif bars and cereal occasionally. If you want to keep defending poor people's food that's cool. Most people are eating cheap white bread and boxes of $1 pasta. That food has ZERO goodness in it. I get carbs from foods like yams or some granola. And you're saying if someone doesn't eat gluten most likely they don't have milk? You mean the same milk that is so overly pastured that it barely has all the natural enzymes in it? Yeah, you can get those benefits else where.

Oh yeah and those corn - fed cows are pretty unhealthy so unless you're getting raw milk from grass feds cows idc what ya gotta say.

I saw first hand a before and after, and daaaaaammn this kid is fine now.

I agree that the gluten free thing is blown way out of proportion, I dont think people are as gluten sensitive as they realize. I think the big problem is that in our modern day diet, we eat so damn much processed wheat and flour with added gluten, sugar, processed crap in general. gluten is just one small piece of the problem. People are not meant to be eating this processed white bread, empty calorie pasta and sugary cereal, etc. its the huge amount of excess thats the problem.

If you were to only eat gluten in its natural form in unprocessed foods, and as part of a better diet in general I guarantee the majority of these "gluten sensitive" people wouldn't have a problem. Nobody can eat that kind of crap all the time and not be effected by it. if you dont think you are its because you havent experienced an actual GOOD diet.

I used to be someone who didnt pay attention to my diet at all, I'd eat sugary cereal in the morning, chips and white bread, shitty pizza hut pizza, soda, crackers, etc.. throughout the day, something like pasta, pizza, taquito's or whatever for dinner. and I was tired 24/7, felt like crap, depressed, and hardly even realized it. Id get home from school or work and sleep for 4 hours, wake up, feel tired, not be able to go to bed, sleep in till 12:00 or 1:00 in the afternoon. I just thought that was normal.

I've slowly gotten better about my diet, the past couple years i've turned it around pretty well. recently for about a month I tried a hight fat, high protein, low carb diet, pretty much consisted of bacon, eggs, butter, whole milk, fish, red meat, all grass fed, as natural as you can get it, lots of vegitables. sweet potatos, fruit, and nuts for carbs, and some good quality grains. I'd just down fatty meat and not give a shit. The difference was insane, I'd wake up super happy, full of energy, like shoot out of bed just happy for it to be another day. have tons of energy throughout the day, always looking for something to do to be productive and better myself. then id get in bed and just fucking konk out, so easily, it was the best sleep i've ever gotten. wake up and start all over. lost like 10 lbs, even though i didnt need or want to, im pretty skinny to begin with. but felt good, almost just felt like i was getting rid of the shit i didnt need, just ended up feeling lean and "light"

Anyway there's my anti bread/sugar/gluten/processed food story.

so my advice, eat plenty of good quality grass fed, no hormone crap, meat, whole milk, fatty stuff, reduce the carbs to a very small part of your food intake, and eat plenty of vegetables. avoid anything that says anything about low fat, reduced fat, even reduced fat milk is a no no, avoid sugar and sugar substitutes. drink lots of water, tea, and good coffee, not too much coffee.

people are so scared of fat, when the reality is when fat becomes a major food source, your body uses it for fuel, its the best most instant and consistent energy sources when your body actually uses it as such. carbs and sugar and bready processed crap just triggers your body to store fat rather than use it for energy. so you can eat all the low fat stuff you want but your still gonna pack on fat like a mofo if thats what your diet consists of.

and biggest thing is stay active, standing up and even just moving around all day vs sitting all day makes a HUGE difference, over a week, month, year, and so on, when that becomes a habit, you'll drop weight and your health overall will improve. that and just do plenty of physical activity. cardio is good, but muscle building exercises keep your body burning fat.

Remember what works for you isn't going to work for everyone. Saying you lost weight because you cut gluten is complete nonsense, there is zero (0) (NOTHING!!!!!) scientific evidence supporting you. Sure, plenty of anecdotal evidence, but scientific research points at other things such as skipping desert to avoid gluten. {1;2} Normally, when coeliacs start going on GF diets they actually gain weight.

As I said, for 99% of people, going gluten free is 100% wrong. If you're in the 1% but don't want a real diagnosis, your call to put yourself at risk of cancer (particularly lymphoma){3}, osteoporosis{4}, lactose malabsorbtion{5}, etc. Just don't preach to others.

I think I need to write this in bold to all you who won't read this because discussions with louie.mirags have become a petty argument.

Don't think I'm shouting angrily through text, I'm just trying to make it more obvious. Read in a very slightly Scottish accent.

Going gluten free is not, and will not, be the answer to anyone who does not have coeliac disease. Other forms of gluten sensitivity are highly disputed. Evidence that gluten free diets lead to weight loss is misleading, the weight loss is caused simply because people on gf diets don't eat as much. Unnecessarily going gluten free can cause osteoporosis and lactose intolerance. It can also cause poor muscle growth. When people talk about diet they almost always overcomplicate, gluten free is such an example. A simple balanced diet is something people are refusing to accept as something that works, this is almost entirely down to the marketing drivel trying to sell you the latest diet book from a nutritionist.

Did you know that 'nutritionist' is not a protected term in most of the US, Canada, UK and Australia? Basically, anyone can call themselves a nutritionist, sans-qualification. Or in many cases, sans-education. A friend of my mother, Ben Goldacre, wrote the popular book 'Bad Science', which describes this well. Check his TED talks as well, the guys an attention whore but he's damn good at the public speaking thing.

Here's a general rule when seeking advice on the internet - if something claims extraordinary results, it's lying. If it wants money, it's a scam.

First bit is right 99% of the time. The money bit, 100%.

Just remember, simplicity is king. Why should you believe me? Most of what I said you where taught in elementary school. The rest is referenced.

Now finally, to Louie.mirags:

I challenge you to find me one, undisputed, paper that supports the theory that GF diets cause weight loss.

100% spot on. People go looking for easy ways out, but truth is there isn't one. GF is just a fad, and it's actually quite a bad one.

Find your daily calorie intake to maintain your current weight and then subtract 500 calories. Doesn't really matter what you're eating as long as you're hitting your daily macros. Also good job on the weight loss so far.

Woah man i was never trying to argue. This is a discussion forum, people are going to have different opinions. You opened up saying what works for me might not work for other people. Well, this thread asked who has lost weight and any tips. I was saying eat mostly natural and for me not eating gluten worked. Then, I pointed out I do eat some gluten. I meant to not eat overly processed food like cheap bread and pasta. I'm not on desktop so i cant bold this :( I know to make you feel better you like proving people wrong about mainstream ideas. Thats fine, we all like making stupid people look bad. However, you can't tell me that pizza and pasta doesn't make me bloated and constipated. It has ZERO nutritional value for you.

So, maybe somebody here who is fat hasn't realized yet that pizza and garlic knots is not a good lunch. That a salad with ground beef with some vinegarette as dressing is a way better option and taste slamming. No processed gluten (hamburger bun) in there. No need to type in bold to dispute that.

Excessive amounts of caffeine, smoking and taking up a class A drug (I recommend either heroine or cocaine) will get you those model cheekbones you want.

As I said, I typed in bold just because most people would dismiss the point as part of this stupid argument.

There is scientific evidence that unnecessarily going gluten free is harmful. I am in no way saying "stuff your face with all the cheap bread and pasta, pizza et cetera". In fact I'm also saying the opposite, all I'm trying to clear up is specifying gluten as something you need to cut out is wrong, because the science says it could be harmful.

Most complications of coeliac disease don't come from the disease itself (with the exception of bowel disease/non-hodgkins lymphoma), but from the extra effort required to eat a balanced diet without eating gluten.

Avoiding junk food is exactly what you should do to lose weight. However only a small proportion of glutenous food is junk, so to single out gluten is wrong. A healthy diet can include gluten.

I would end it there, but 'you like proving people wrong about mainstream ideas' is complete bullshit. I'm advocating exactly what you were taught in elementary school, that's as mainstream as it gets. The gluten free craze isn't mainstream, it's a fad.
