Losing interest in skiing.:(

So I just finished college, and I've been skiing at different mountains for the last five years. Skiing on average over a hundred days as well as working a lot on skis.

I am losing interest in skiing. WTF?!?!.. Maybe its just end of season stuff, but I don't know. Sorry to be a buzzkill, but I need some encouragement or something. I never thought this would happen.

go enjoy summer and get your mind off of it. When next season rolls around you should be ready to get back out there and shred.

it happens I love skiing for the first 3 month of the winter I slept in my car at the mount snow parking lot just to ski on the weekend then towards the end I had to stop to work on Saturdays and I lots some interest in it, I'm sorry to say it but your growing up there are other thing that take place you should get done first. I don't think you hate skiing but you have other priority to do first once you settle down I'm sure you get back into it.

Yeah.. I hope its just end of season.. I dunno.

This season, I skied park at least five days a week, all day.. I lost interest in hitting features..No interest in progression. It sucked, but I just wasn't stoked anymore.

I have an idea:

Move out east for a season... then move back to Utah. When you get back to Utah you'll love skiing again. Or at least be wayyyyy more stoked on it.

it sounds like your not tired of skiing but tired of park skiing, have fun this summer, when the ski season comes around dont spend all your time in the park, go ski pow/backcountry/challenging skiing that dosnt involve man made jumps

Sorry but I cannot relate in anyway to what you are saying. My interest in skiing has never dipped in the slightest since I first started.

Go rewatch all the traveling circus episodes and nimbus webisodes and come back here and tell me you are still not stoked for skiing, i dare you.

Gotta fine a passion for the summer, then you are always doing something you love. Reality is you cant ski year round. Well you can but you need big $$.

same thing happened to me...i was so bored of skiing i even started snowboarding. every no and again I miss skiing though. It's basically like having an identidy crisis b/c i want to ski but i also want to snowbaord.

To me watching snowboarding is just so much more fun to watching b/c they can make something simple like doing a tailblock down the trail look really fun.

You'll miss skiing though eventually, give it time. Try something new when you ski, go for a new trick ya know.

correct. take up a few other interests in the winter- snow shoeing, cross country skiing, ice fishing. 100 days a year of anything will inevitably lead to some burn out

fucking terrible idea... so many people on this site would kill for 100 days a year, this guy just needs to realize how lucky he is

Happens to me at the end of every season. I don't get depressed I just get sick of skiing. I can't wait for summer to just chill and relax and then about half way through summer I start to miss it. Probably your case, maybe take a year off all together to do something else and then get back into it.

man i dunno how you can lose interest in skiing. i can see losing interest in park, and becoming more interested in making turns...but damn losing all skiing interest? you're probably just overly lucky. i spent the past couple weeks hiking rails and mud and shit, setting everything up everyday because it always melted the day before, just hiking the same rail over and over...i'd give anything to be able to ski a lift right now and not have to do these finals

Actually as of recently I had the ability to ski year round. Part of that is due to the job I had and where I lived. And it had nothing to do with having big $$. Just having so much love for skiing that I moved across country in order to do it year round. So yeah, its really crappy that I've lost interest. This isn't a knock on skiing or anyone that loves it, because believe me I loved it as much as anyone else. I want to enjoy skiing like I used to, and I am pissed that I don't for some reason. I want to enjoy both park skiing and other skiing as much as I used to. For some reason I can't. It fucking sucks.

it summer now so a perfect opportunity to take a break from skiing. The best way to find out if you truly love something is step away from it for a bit

though i have not lost intrest in skiing what happens to me in other sports is I compeletely eat, sleep and breathe that sport for a certain period of time and it almost kills the fun of it because my life becomes focused so much on that sport. Too much of a good thing can start to get boring so take a break all summer, don't go on NS (unless you really have to), put your skis away and focus your energy on something new and by the time winter rolls around you should be stoked again

watch tons of ski movies. Then re mind your self on something sick you did. Then imagine yourself floating through pow or pulling a huge 3.
Gets me stoked

Find some people to ski or just hang with that are really stoked on skiing. When I first moved to Los Angeles, I lost some interest in skiing until I met some other skiers (and started spending a lot of time on NS because there just aren't many skiers in LA).

stay on Newschoolers all summer and by the time the first snow hits, you will be jonesin so bad you will want to cry.

that's what happens when may rolls around after you skied 100+ days...by next fall, you'll be back to hiking for 3 inches of snow on top of rocks

I love chocolate cake.

I would not love chocolate cake as much if I had it every day for almost 100 days straight.

It's not unreasonable for someone to like something less because they have it all the time. I'm sure there are plenty of examples in your life. Yeah, the kid is lucky to be able to ski so much, but it's possible that he just does it far too much.

you skii wayyyy to much in one season dude! take it easy, if you ski 5 days a week and over 100 times a year then obviously too much of it. to much of one thing isntt good dude. ski less and you'll enjoy it more, like me i ski maybe 20 times a year, and i ski till every last second and love it for 10 years noww

this happened to me about 4 years ago. you just need to change shit up. i used to shred park day and day out until the point that i basically got bored and didn't enjoy it anymore. since then i took the race skis out of the closet and got into skicross. now i can get enough of skiing whether it's doing 80km/h through the park or simply ripping trenches into the groomers.

just diversify and you'll be alright!

skiing is not even close to chocolate cake fat ass, deminishing marginal utility doesnt apply to skiing

WHAAA?

man i skied every day i could this year and the only time it sucked was when the weather was bad.

maybe its just me but i can never get enough days in, the more the better.

i love love love skiing. there have been times during fall/spring when i cant ski that i was so "depressed" that i couldnt ski i lost intrest in it for a day or 2 then realized how mych i need it. youll love it again just take a break for summer.

i know what you mean i dont lose interst ins kiing im always stoked to be out there but sometimes it just gets boring skiing the park the same things over and over and when its the eascoast no backcountry big mountain the trees do it for me so much fucken fun this year so much pow in them we found. also i picked up a pair of sick carving all mtn skis they are so much fun always good to switch it up once and a while

thats why we get a few months off, enjoy your summer but once the snow starts falling again i'm sure you'll be psyched

this is kind of a day by day thing. When me and my buddies get bored in the park we head up to the top and you race from top to bottom on the easiest way down green circles and its a contact race. its more fun than it sounds especially when its close. its like a tucking battle

go slay some some trees while listening to Mishka. No one could ever lose interest in that. ever.

I feel the same exact way, and Abay is just 2 miles up the road. I just don't feel like skiing. I feel satisfied with this season though since I got 110 days in. I'm not worried about it though because winter will be back, but I'm excited for my first summer in CO.

Take the biggest summer break ever and dont even bring skiing accross your mind, then when october/november comes around, you'll be freaking out all over again about skiing.

dont do anything skiing related at all for like one or two months. no newschoolers, no trampoline, no watching movies, just find something else to do. After a while u wont even think about skiing at all and u wont mind. then, just for shits and giggles, watch the teasers to the new movies coming out in the fall. guarenteed itll raise your stoke

I can relate sort of, by the end of the season I feel pretty skied out and just ready to relax during the summer. When September/October come around though I am dying to ski again.

Like others said take a break this summer. Don't even think about skiing then next fall buy all the new ski movies and watch them over and over to get you really stoked. Then don't ski park. Get you and your buddies to go ski powder and drop cliffs. The least boring days are when I'm scaring myself skiing gnarly terrain.
