Looking to upgrade from a t3i..

So Ive had a t3i for a little over a year and I really like the quality of video I can get from it, but I really dislike the form factor and the design overall. im pretty invested in canon glass but it wouldnt be too hard to resell it if necessary. im looking to upgrade to somthing like a Sony Vg-20 or a different camcorder with a similar design. I have around a 2500-3000 budget at most if i sold all my canon gear along with other money I have saved. So what does NS recommend that i do? thanks!

Well hopefully 1080 60 frames, paddle zoom, a view finder, basically all the things a dslr is lacking for video. i also just really prefer the shape and feel of a camcorder over a dslr. basically just a camera that was made to do video not photos.

I'll stay out of this because I don't have much experience with camcorders, but if I were you, I would get either a 5D II or 5D III depending on your needs and budget. Their sensors are larger than the RED Epic's and you already have the glass. You can put them on rails and get a similar feel to a camcorder. Just my opinion. I have heard great things about the VG-20 and VG-30 though.

Don't spit bullshit, you used the sensor size of the 5d to compare it to a Red Epic. You and qfag need to just lurk ns/dvxuer/other video forums before you guys just going around telling everyone what you guys "think" is right.

In no way did I mean to say a 5d is better than a red epic. I was just trying to add a positive spin. I apologize for that.

eheath hit it spot on. check out the ac90 for sure because its right in your range. I have the ac160 and its a blast to use and the ac90 will be pretty similar as well just with less features.

okay thanks ill forsure check that out! how does the AG AC 90 compare to a Dslr in low light? i probably should of mentioned i shoot at night almost 50% of the time, thats why i was looking at the vg 20/30 because it had the build of a camcorder but still has the parts of a Dslr that are really useful. (good in low light, shallow dof, etc)

130 doesnt have 1080 60p capabilities or any vfr. (variable frame recording)

It does however have a much longer lens than then 90 but if its mainly going to be used for anything that isnt super telephoto then its a better call for skiing over then 130.

or best of both get the 160

So i have decided on getting the ac90 at the end of the season! Thanks for the help everyone in this thread but i just have a few more questions.

what type of mic/ which model of mic is the best to go with this camera?

I would also like to get a fisheye adapter (i know newschoolers hates fisheye but i really like it) so which one would you recommend with a 49mm thread size?

any other help i can get is greatly appreciated!

thanks

I dunno your budget, maybe you said it but I must have read between the lines, the sony HXR NX5 are really great. I use them nearly daily. Anyway, upgrading from t3i is pretty easy since the t3i is very mediocre.
