Looking to buy twin-tips

hey guys, i'm looking to buy some twin-tip skis and bindings to go with. i live in australia, ski at hotham/falls. i want the twin tips for terrain parks and half-pipe. i have a few questions:

What brands do you recommend?

is it worth getting a flex-plate under the bindings, such as Head's railflex system?

are there any particular bindings that stand out?

 
STL's are probably your best choice. They slay the park and pipe. If you going to go out of the park a little look at ar5's, and chronics.

The rossi/look axial heel bindings are by far the best on the market.

The freeflex plates are definately not worth it, especialy since you have to ride a tyrolia binding on it and those things are just subpar. If you've had past knee injuries get the line reactor 12 binding riding on either the chronic or invaders (chronic for more all mountain, invaders for park). If you haven't had any injuries and safety isn't as big of a concern to you as durability is, look for one of the rossignol or look pivot/axial series bindings any of them will fit you fine. There are so many skis to choose from that you just can't go wrong with anymore its ridiculous. Ar5,,pe,thalls,stls,invaders,chronics, among many others.

 
^That's pretty much all he needs to know, so let's just not have this thread end up with everyone telling the guy to buy their skis. I'd add that Salomon bindings are also a viable choice (S912 and up), although I and most people prefer look/rossi. I'd suggest you narrow down your field by deciding what kind of riding you want to do, whether you want a relatively fat ski or not, what kind of flex you're after... those kinds of things.

I'd only recomend S916s and up, everyone busts the S912s, including me and they pre-release like crazy.

Get Look or Rossi bindings bro, and try to buy some of last years.

As for skis, do you want a 100% park ski or something different? What's your specs? How good of a skier are you? Stiff or soft? Give more info if you want a better answer.

 
first up, you've changed my opinion of ns.com. i looked at the comments attached to pictures, and thought you'd all be egotistical self absorbed skiiers. i was wrong. you've been helpful

okay i'm not the best judge of my ability, but i have been skiing since i could walk, i'm 16 atm, turning 17 in october. i have a pair of head cyber x20s/tyrolia SL110 with railflex, for my downhill stuff, but they don't do so well in the parks (mainly because they're single-tip.), which i have recently taken interest in.

i am 6ft tall, thats about all i know that could help in deciding gear. again i don't know how good i am.

 
Railflex binding is definately not going ot be your best choice for park riding, if you do like your heads though (stiffness, little heavy) you shoudl probably check out heads mad trix. Thats gonna be one of the only skis that will hold an edge even close to your cybers outside of the park. Unless you can manage to get your hands on a pair of scott p2s, not sure what scott skis availablility is where you live. But the p2 is the best carving twin i have ever riden and judging by what your riding now, you don't mind carving too much and would want a twin that you could occasionaly rip groomers on, and be able to hold a decent edge. For bindings just look at higher posts in this thread. pivot series for overall goodness, upper end salomons for lightness, lines for saftey sacrificng durability.

Make your own choice, there is so much shit available now and people are ridiculous about how they claim skis are so much beter than others, sure there are some, but when your just begining riding park your not going to notice. In the end thalls are not going to turn your 3s, into 7s, and your 270s to 450s.

 
Line Chronics, friend has a air says they are siiiick, and he has line reactors on them if i am not exact, he has broken them about three diff. times, so maybe go with Looks.

 
or atomic tweaks, or the new atomic defiant's. they are a moderately light twin-tip that is good in the park, and is stiff enough for all-around skiing. they are also very sturdy, and nearly indestructable. another good choice, comparable to the mad trix

i think i'll go with the mad trix, they're the only twin tips i've ever used, and yes, i do want to occasionally carve with them :) as for bindings, i think i'll settle with whatever my dealer gives me, because being loyal to his shop, i'll get a discount, and since i'm not going to be doing very serious stuff, ie competing, i think i can just tighten the bindings a little and that will do...
