Looking to buy new Rossis

I've been skiing a pair of Rossignol scratches for the last 4 years and now I'm looking for a pair of skis that handle in powder a bit better. I've been reading some good reviews of the S5 but most of the reviewers were 6 foot and 170 + lbs, I'm 5'' and 140 lbs on a heavy day. I'm not really into super bendy skis (ie. anthems) but I don't want anything stiffer than my scratches.

Do you think the s5 178's would be too much of a ski for me?

P.S. I'm not really interested in other brands, I've been on Rossis since I was 5, but if you think there is another Rossi ski that would fit me better let me know.

Thanks,

Kyle

I'm guessing you meant to write 5' not 5". If you are 5 feet tall, 178s would be 26 cms over your head about 10.25 inches. This might be a bit unruly for you to handle, but then again, you might ski real aggressively and might get used to it. You also are probably still growing in height and weight so you could grow into it. I think Rossignol also makes a 171 S5 so you could look into that as well. It would still be taller than you, but not by as much. As for the S5, it seems to be a pretty legit ski. I hear it works well in pow, park, and groomers so it could be a sick one ski quiver.

Hahaha. In that case you can definitely handle the 178s. If I were you I'd get the 185s though. Rossignol skis run pretty short. When I stepped up to 176 Armada Pipe Cleaners from 174 Rossignol Scratch FS WRSs the length difference was about 5 or 6 cms. If you're getting them for powder I'd definitely say get the 185s. They're pretty light skis and aren't super stiff so you can definitely handle them at your weight. At your height 185 is also a great size. For reference I am 5'10" and just bought some 185 ARVs.

What are you buying the ski for, powder/all mountain or park as well?

If it's mostly powder/all mountain then my adviuce would be to get the S7s asap. I have never had so much fun on a ski in all my life -they rip amazingly well in all conditions in spite of their size. I'm 5" 6/160 lbs and ski the 188s. They're a good chunk over my head which offers plenty of stability on drops and at speed but are still so nimble and quick to turn it's unreal. Don't be afraid to go big if you're going to be skiing aggressively.

OP, way to stay true to Rossi. Their skis are awesome and both my wife and I've sworn by them for a long time. If I was not such a huge Candide fan I would have stayed on them entirely, I just got some CoreUPTs that I am pretty psyched on.
If you are 5'-11" then I think the s5 at a 178cm would be absolutely perfect. The s5 is 98mm waist and a really good bridge between all mountain jib/park ski and powder boards. I have the predessor of the S5 the Create IT BC also 98mm and they are simply awesome. They've been retired to my touring skis now but they did everything well.
s5 178cm go for it and don't look back.
Good Luck!

On second thought, I am not sure how old you are, but if you are going to grow more or at least bulk up then you could also go with the 185cm. I am 5'11" 180lbs and I went with the 185cm. Perfect for me.

Yo. If you are lighter, the s5 I felt was a pretty stiff ski. I had a pair of 185, I am 6'3" 170. I had them mounted a +3 from classic. I have also skied the s3 and if you want to do some powder riding as well as everything else get the s3. They have just enough rocker to make your life easier in pow but not so much they are flopping around all over the place in the park. Go with a 186. Sounds long but the skis measure and ski very short. Mount it at +3 from classic if you intended to ride switch a lot. Nuff Said.
