NS, So I am looking into buying a motorcycle. Generally for commuting, cruising around. I am really looking into a cruiser type bike. Don't really want to be another chad on a sportbike. Therefore, do any of you know anything about cruiser type bikes? best manufacturers? Looking for something preferablly over 500CC and hopefully less than $4,000 used.

Get an old honda CB750 and turn it into a cafe racer. Theyre really easy to work on too

Thats tight, however not really looking to working on a bike just yet. First bike, don't know much about them. But a bike project down the road is def. a possibility
 
look into a possible yamaha fz6r. it's a nice in between crotch rocket and cruiser. great gas mileage, and a super comfortable ride. if it's your first bike, and you only want it for commuting a 600 is more than enough. also brand new they are roughly 7k, so if you get a used one i can only imagine it would be in your price range. They come with tons of options and look good too. There is my 2 cents!

Get a kawasaki 650 kinda like the yamaha but its parallel twin engine its what I was looking at but I'm not a pussy so I got a r6 which still gets 40+ mpg and gives girls orgasms /claim

And too OP, any 650 should do fine. I started on a 250 Ninja, and it is just to slow for me.

If you want a cruiser, browse Craigslist or CycleTrader. I've had nothing but good experiences with Honda motorcycles. I don't think Honda makes a 650, but you may want to look into getting a dual-sport depending on where you live.
 
I second the cb750 suggestion, super reliable and parts galore. my first bike was a gs650, I was a fan of the suzuki but just not as much market as the honda.

I'm pretty sure you could find a Honda Shadow practically new for $4k and that is a pretty comfortable and decent looking first cruiser.
 
Thanks for the info guys. Anyone know anything about Yamaha bikes? I found a 94 Yamaha virago 750 with 20,000 for just over $2000. Is that a deal or no deal?
 
viragos are one of the ugliest bikes of all time, and at 2 grand I'd never buy one. If you can offer him 1200 and he accepts, then MAYBE.
 
Fuck off, for the last 5 years ive wanted an early 70's cb, they use to cost 1500$ max for a bike in great ship, since so many fucking people love cafe racers the same exact bike will cost 3500$ minimum now, a price increase of around 125%- fuck hipsters, and supply and demand
 
It looks like it is in pretty damn good condition given its year. Clean title. Windshield and bunch of saddlebags which id obviosuly get rid of. What's KBB tho man?

what kind of bike do you have or recommend? Depends on what kind of bikes you're into. I started on a Ninja 250 but I feel the need to move on because it is just too slow. If you have experience and want a sport bike, CBR600RR is very comfortable and so are CBR600F4i's. All depends.

A cheap one where I live is about $700, and a nice one is around $1500-2000, and Im talking really great condition. Also Ive never seen a hipster on a motorcycle before. I feel sorry for the ass backwards area you live in.
 
I bought a fz6r new in 2009, the bike is a very good starter bike, at 600cc the insurance isnt too bad i had full coverage so it was too high for me to afford so i sold the bike the end of this summer. However i liked the bike for the more upright position you sit in and the seat isnt uncomfortable like most rockets, its a good choice. If i was looking at a bike again however id get a full rocket like an r6 or a cbr. The fz6r has plenty of power but just doesnt give the sporty look, that i personally was looking for. Ive been looking into getting a cafe racer for the fact that they are cheap to buy and cheap to insure. Id talk to your insurance company before purchasing anything if you are under 25 which i am assuming you are, insurance is going to pretty expensive even with liability.
 
Also on reading further into the forum, i would not buy a bike thats got 20k on it unless its got a v-twin, still would be skeptical 20k on a bike is alot.
 
Rigid with a tractor seat. That's bad ass. Hope the dream comes true. Since you are going to chop it anyone, look at picking up an older bike. You could probably pick up an old sporty for a few k. It's a good time to pick one up because on average I think they are selling for about half of what they were 15 years ago.
 
yea ive been looking on craigslist for an older (lower to mid '90 so that it has a evo engine) sportster. you can find them for as low as 3 to 4k. put the engine on a rigid frame. mid height bars. chop the rear fender, lose the front. open primary. foward controls. then flat black rear fender, tank and bars with a flat blue paint job on the frame. one day soon... just need the space to do it. something very similiar to this.

you got good taste dude. my old man was building a knucklehead but lost intrest for hotrods and 60s drag cars so he said if i finish it its mine. pretty pumped. i hope to have it done by the summer
 
I love my bike, but I have always dreamed of owning a knuckle. Buy a Climbers Manual and get on that shit. I know guys that would kill for that bike. I just had my Shovel put back together for $1200. The problem with Harleys is that there are a lot of mechanics and a lot of mechanics that suck. It may take awhile, but ask around and find someone good. Then spend a little money and get the thing running. Considering your dad is giving it to you, you will spend a few k, but end up with something that is worth at least 14k on a bad day.

Can't wait to see it. How original was when your dad started working on it? Your going with a springer, too? It's gonna be sharp. You are going to love the sound. I recommend wrapping the pipes like mine. Seems to improve performance and sound a little. There is nothing like old iron.
 
im not sure. hes had if for as long as i can remember. i remember as a kid helping him work on it so its really special to me. i still got some thinking to do on it. ill post a pic tomorrow
 
Don't buy one of these unless you want to be laughed at by all the people man enough to buy an actual motorcycle. Scooters in general suck and are way more dangerous than motorcycles, there is no justifying buying one unless you are an absolute loser that thinks they or cool, or really can't afford to buy a motorcycle (which I don't get because you could easily get a motorcycle for the price of a ruckus)

Thats awesome what area are you in? in nyc they got big with hipsters about 2 years ago. Back in college you could totally find a great early 70's cb 350cc and up (I'd love a 500-750) def in your price range. Here for a 350 and up youre looking at 2699-4500 easy, sucks for sure maybe ill have to buy one outside the north east
