Looking to buy a duramax

1) if you're plowing don't lift the truck

2)if you're loading sleds, atvs, or anything you actually need a truck for, don't lift the truck

3)if you're a new driver (16y/o is a new driver no matter how many hours youbve logged on gta)

There is a difference between being able to "afford" and emptying out one's bank account for something.

This, more likely than not, falls into the latter category.

If he 100% needed a diesel for work, then fine, it isn't the worst idea (but still not a good one) but he doesn't. He wants it for pleasure which would be fine if he weren't spending all his money on it. He could easily achieve the same results by going with gas Ford F-250/F-350, Chevy/GMC 2500/3500, or a Dodge 2500/3500 and save a shit ton of money in the short run and long run.

So everyone harping on him in the thread is doing so because they recognized he doesn't need a truck like that and it isn't fiscally responsible.

He doesn't have to listen to anyone here but there are people who are older and have gone through similar purchases or experiences that have insight he does not.

fair enough my man

Diesel trucks are sick as fuck, don't get me wrong I love them, but unless you are trying to actually tow some heavy duty shit like a bunch of livestock or something you are just gonna look like every other mall crawling douchebag sucking from the teet of mommy and daddy's bank account that everyone hates. I've seen people tow a sled in a clapped out Subaru Outback 2.5 and you can plow in much smaller trucks.

And if you are 16 and actually paying for 3/4 of a car you might want to think about not setting yourself up to start out independent life with a bunch of debt and a broken money pit in your driveway. But you haven't really displayed a ton of intelligence so far on here so I'm guessing you aren't that concerned about college.

but that's just me man, if you want a dirty max, get it, lift it, and you might as well slap on some basketball sized truck nutz as well.

some one is jealous, jesus christ chubz if he wants a lifted truck and can afford it then why not?

OP don't let a bunch of liberals try and convince you not to get a diesel, if you don't know how to fix it, here's a good idea, go to a shop to answer someones comment from above

hey i like lifted trucks just as much as you and if i could afford a dirtymax or 24v cummins id have one sittin pretty 6 inches up on some 35 nitto's in my driveway right now.

But i dont need something that big for where i live and what i do, if i still owned dirtbikes/4wheelers and could afford a truck like that i would love one, i could use to to tow my boat around and load firewood for my dad and shit but i dont need one.

But hey if you wanna blow your trustfund on a beat as fuck mid 2000s duramax and roll into school with your big truck and have all the unibrowed buck tooth truck sluts on your dick be my guest!

for what OP wants he could get a tacoma or a half ton silverado instead of a duramax, trying to look out for the kid and not see him blow all his money.

i look at it this way, if you want a big lifted truck, and have the money to even be looking at a duramax...

Find a STOCK 2010's silverado with a 6.0 or a 2014/15 with the 6.2 vortec in it, and put the extra money into mods and a lift. You'd get more for your money and be able to build a rig instead of spending 20+ grand on an already modified duramax.

just my 2 cents.

lol rangers are pretty bad, basically a taurus with a bed.

also a v8 ranger? "Hold on guys, let me have a 2000 pound towing cap, no cargo space and get 12mpg"

embrace the fact that truck enthusiast inherently have shitty vehicles!

The only thing they do great is tow, they arent even the best things for offroading. So if you want shit, spend shit. Own shit. Be shit. Because that's how the whole world see's diesel truck fans outside of themselves.

Two thoughts,

First, 20,000 for a truck with 13k worth of work means you wiull be buying a maintenance nightmare...

and secondly...when I was your age, I had a bad accident in my first car (as did most people my age). Why not drop 10k on a tacoma or similar type truck, and save the rest? A lift kit will lower your gas mileage, increase hidden costs etc...your tires will cost a lot more...

I'd love a GMC 2500 HD but I bought a used tacoma ('09 SR5 V6) instead. I love the damn thing.

Go back to the planning board, and figure out what you really need.

Idk homie I mow lawns n shit and I'm looking to get a 4cyl s10 for that and commuting, gets like 29mpg highway so I think that ain't bad

Where do you live that everyone is having accidents? Back in HS I wouldn't say that most people my age were crashing the first car they owned...

You also have to take into account your driving abilities. That truck is very large and considering it will be your first vehicle is not a very good idea. Also, your reasoning for a truck is flawed. You say that you're hauling your buds to get to the hill/mountain. Ever heard of roof racks? Plus, guess how much gas is.. A lot.. You are most likely gonna be making a lot of tracks where you're going so have fun paying +$100 per fillup. Not very practical. And towing.. You're 16 years old? What exactly are you hauling that requires a duramax? OP I'm not trying to bash you its just that it seems everyone is putting their 2 cents in, I thought I'd add mine

To me it made sense. If i understand what he was going for it was that if you blow a bunch of money you don't really have you will be shit.

I wrecked off roading. Not everyone got into accidents obviously but there were quite a few big crashes in my school. One girl rolled on the highway at 70 and another supposedly killed someone drunk driving the summer after graduation...

Quit saying stupid things and remarkably butchering your punctuation and I'll leave you alone, what the fuck do you want me to call you? "dumb half black kid" takes a bit more time to type out than Byron.

Now that I think of it it's I should look into finding one with lower mileage

On Craigslist I found a 2006 chevy Silverado 2500 that look exactly like the one I found has 80k miles on it for 19,000 it has an extended cab I don't need a full out 4 door

Suggestion, be willing to drive and you will certainly find better deals.

you do realize what you're saying about yourself if you state that you want other dudes to call you daddy right?

I'll use your actual name, and would prefer you do the same.

Jesus christ the amount of tears in this thread over wanting a diesel... Have any of you ever driven one? I'd pay the extra $10k for a diesel even if I never had any intentions of towing shit. Especially considering you can still get a Cummins with a manual transmission. All these new gas trucks with autos are fucking brutal to drive. If you can find a one in a million relatively new gas with a manual those aren't bad. We have an '08 Hemi 2500 with a 6 speed, I actually really like it. Automatic diesels aren't nearly as bad as gas though.

Don't let these Subaru fanatics steer you away, if you want a diesel truck fuckin giver

So I actually did end up buying an older truck, a 1985 chevy Silverado with a 572 engine in it, the truck was almost brand new with only 40k on it, I'm not saying the price cuz I don't want to brag. It runs solid and the engine roars it has a rough country suspension kit and nitto tires, i wanted a duramax but I honestly like the gasser way better and it was a good deal, it's great for hauling I love it

Work this summer and replace that rough country lift with a mcgaughys. Please. RC is shit, you'll have a way smoother ride/actually be able to go off roading in gnarly shit and not have to worry about a 600 dollar lift blowing out on you.

How big's the lift?

Good god, that motor new is $20K, I can't imagine what the cost of the truck was.. But an 85' chevy is the way to go, I drive a 72' K20.
