Looking for skis...

My friend who hasn't skied more than 3 times before, wants to start skiing now. He is 6'1'' and weighs 165-170lbs. So I guess you could say hes a beginner but I think he would be able to learn pretty fast. We found a pair of Line Chronics on craigslist for a good price with bindings with an asking price of $140. But the size of the Chronics are 167, so I was thinking that these might be just a little too short for him. I do not think they are center mounted. So my question is could he use these skis without any problem? And another question would be whats a good size ski for him. Thanks in advance.

or a starting out ski they might not be too bad to learn on but not that versital. A 177 or lager would be good for size.

Uh, maybe. At 6 foot something over 176 would be what I would point him to, preferably a 191 for an all mountain ski.

i'm 6'2 and weigh 180, I would not recommend getting him skis shorter than 176 just because he wont be able to ski them that short/// and he'll look like an idiot. i rock a pair of 177's right now.. but ive had em for 2 seasons already and they're beginning to be a nuisance because them seem short.. i cant imagine myself on a pair any shorter than 170.. definitely try to find some skis that are 175-181 for him

i think you guys keep forgetting that hes a beginner. i really dont think he would be able to turn/control the ski if theyre 177+

If he has good balence and is somewhat athletic, and can keep his legs straight and can stop within reasonable distance then he should have no problem. That isn't like a crazy big size or anything.
