Looking for others who want to start freestyle content website.

I’m looking to start a freestyle ski site that makes profit from content and maybe branches out later on.

The initial focus is going to be on freestyle content and other related skiing articles. A lot of larger skiing publications ignore the stuff I have in mind, and there’s enough search volume behind this stuff to turn a profit.

I have a background in SEO, Digital marketing, content management/writing, and some website building. We would most likely all be accessing a WordPress site together, unless someone volunteers to build one from scratch (not likely). I’m hoping to find others with similar backgrounds and careers that could contribute to getting this off its feet.

Id be willing to foot the fees for hosting and domain stuff, but I would not have much to offer in terms of pay until the site starts generating income. Anyone who helps get the site running with me will be receiving a percentage of profit when it begins to make money.

I am aware this is a challenge, but I think if I can find a few others who are down to dedicate a couple hours a week to building it and developing content, it would work.

If you are interested, shoot me a DM with your experience, jobs, what you can contribute to etc. I’ll make a group on some app that we can all talk and start to solidify plans with.

my brother in christ, you're currently posting on a website that is exactly what you are describing...

I don’t think you understand. This is a dead forum that offers no benefits to people who post in-depth content, nor is it remotely close to the type of website I described.

Writers and posters would be paid for content and it would offer a lot more all around. Let it goooo

No one accidentally finds Newschoolers when looking for ski content man. It doesn’t show up for any common or uncommon skiing questions when typed into Google. it’s an obscure forum that didn’t do enough during its prime to stay relevant.

Homie literally any google search about current park culture comes to here, and it's barely alive for free. You wanna get paid for content? Go work for blister.

NS gets 50% + of their page views from google search

All the data I gathered shows it’s from people power searching looking for stuff specifically from newschoolers. If people want more exposure and money in the freestyle community, a barely working forum is not the way to get it.

If you don’t like the idea of a freestyle content site, just say that. No need to misinterpret the goal of the website and try to argue NS is exactly what I described.

There’s a market for exactly what I described and NS is simply not that.

nothing you read online about page views and other statistics are remotely accurate for any website, internal numbers are not available to the public.

IDK if you're trolling at this point, but NS is literally a freestyle skiing content website lol the forums are about 5% of the page views.

Yea and I run 20+ websites content and SEO strategies. This site just isn’t what people want or need, it’s just the only current outlet.

I respect that such a small community is so passionate about this site but it simply is not great from a consumer standpoint. I completely understand why so many are defensive about the idea of an alternative, but from a financial perspective NS is missing a lot.

I’m not reading online statistics brother I’m just pulling raw data from SEMRush and a bunch of other tools to see this website is not what you think it is. I understand you’re defensive because you have a lot of time into NS, but it legit seems like you are in denial about the state of this forum and what it lacks.

I don’t think this convo can get more productive if you aren’t able to see what an alternative platform for ski content would offer. Appreciate your thoughts!

bro idc what trash websites you run SEO for, if you don't see how well SEO runs for NS you're either bad at your job or trolling.

Like im not sure if you're actually this stupid and naive, you gotta be trolling man

Why are you so upset brother? Good lord. The forum full of brain damaged skiiers is not a solid place for content.

If you’d ever like to guest post on my website just shoot me a DM and I’ll tell you how much the content is worth. Also, can I run ads on here?

It’s a good thing I’m not basing the entire website on park culture. All 50 of NS active users would be furious.

I would love to see what you are describing succeed (as would most people on here) but it doesn’t seem likely to work. Give it a try though, I’m curious if you’re actually serious.

paywalled gaperbait

this is the best way to describe what im picking up from you here, OP

youre not particularly wrong about how NS isn't a mainstream skiing website, but it also wasn't created out of desire for profit. profit is literally in the mission statement of your proposed website. to do what you're describing, you're going to lose a lot of legitimacy, niche high end content, and panache. it will require appeasing mainstream consumers, and be irrelevant to any legitimate freestyle participants.

if you want to make money: good luck. if you want to contribute to the culture: maybe try a different way

This thread is now shark tank.

mr. Wonderful (eheath) is out.

mark Cuban is laughing at you

and I, Daymond John, have an offer:

I’ll write one article every two months for 20% stake in the company plus you get to access me as a industry consultant for 2 hours per quarter.

Also just to throw it out there SLVSH made an app exactly like ur idea it worked for a year but fell off hard. Granted it could have been way ahead of it’s time, but you’re gonna need a platform bigger than NS to keep that going. Not saying impossible whatsoever, but you should build a base following through social media by promoting your idea. then transfer it to a diff platform if that’s the aim

Great marketing

Genuinely serious but NS users seems deeply offended by the concept of freestyle skiing content being delivered in skimag.com format. I’m amused at the responses here.

I must be Barbara because I was out before I finished his headline. I think this is the best offer he will get, almost too good. If I were him Ide take the offer before you start asking for more equity in his "company".

I’m Lori Greiner. I’m making a counter offer to Daymond. I’m willing to do a 500,000$ investment for 35% of your company plus a royalty of 5% for every article written. Plus my connections in the industry will greatly benefit.

Take it or leave it

My articles that I wrote and got paid for here have a better SEO than any of your websites. Post your numbers and hire me or fuck off

You lost me at WordPress.

NS has been around for 20+ years at this point, and pays creators, provides funding for projects, has one of the only userbases where companies and pros actually interact with members.

Doing facebook drop sites doesn't count for shit. Do you have funding? Investors? Advertiser deals? Company deals? Partnerships with resorts? A core userbase? "I would not have much to offer in terms of pay". lol.

But who knows? Make a better site and prove me wrong.

10/10 troll got my jimmies rustled.

Makes thread on site about ski things, about making a site about ski things, because NS is a dead forum, but also the place to post to find people into ski things...

Competing against social media. NS, clip shows etc with a goal of actually making money could be tough. If you want to do it send it, but maybe don't do it for the loot because there isn't much of it out there.

I want this to be real lol

A hub for mainly videos and edits but housed movies and articles too if I’m not mistaken. Instagram format sorta, based entirely off of taking skiers using social media and honing it for us to have our own app

to e heaths point earlier basically NS in a different format with less direct community involvement as far as forums go

That wasn't an App, that was their website, they did custom content for a bit along with currating videos.

SLAPP was the App, which was completely different, they had a really cool idea there too and unfortunately the timing didn't work out for them.
