Looking For Help With My Setup.

Hi guys/girls so i just cant get my setup to work... i've been dying to ski and even though winter is close i want something i can use all year round. I put together short video of the setup and hopefully someone can point me in the right direction.

Inital problems.

Not enough speed.

To harsh transtion.

The water runs through the astro turf.

Size/Length?

Maybe we bought wrong turf?

Fixes.

We chopped out a chunk of the transtion and raise the end of the ramp while lowering the lip.

Still too much resistence and not enough speed.

Debating on puting cardboard underneith the grass to trap water better still dont know if that will help at all.

We also bought spray lube (like wd40 type stuff), even with that slippery as hell stuff coated on the turf and on the skis it didnt help much.

Heres the video

Thank you very much

+ Karma for all the help.

for speed issues, i dunno, i use dish soap, lots, and lots of water! if i need any extra speed y would use poles to help me drop into the inrun

you might also need to check if the turf is oriented to slide on its good side, and by this i mean that its "grass" points in one direction!

if it doesn't get any better, you could extend the ramp to the ground, than make the transition (plywood or watever, but not on grass) and make the kicker less steep and it should be closer to the ground, not so tall. by doing this you will need your rails to be less tall, and trust me that you won't regret it, cause falling from tall rails is gonna hurt, and could bring cause you any unwanted injuries

Height of the dropin seems pretty acceptable

that being said, i think you're good to make a call.

hope it help!

I am going outside right now to check if the turf has a direction. I guess maybe we shall lower it and then in turn lower the box. Thank you for your tips sir.

put a layer of plstic sheet under the turf like garbage bags cut open to be one single sheet.

that will helps so the water doesnt flow right through

I'll try out eh plastic sheets idea, i hope that will fix it alot. Cuase that turf doesn't hold the water at all.

thanks for the advice.

Lowering the lip/takeoff is a good move, but It looks like when you modified it, you made it less steep and longer? It definitely needs to be steeper. The transition you have looks perfect to me though. What is the height of the setup, around 6'?

I would take the turf off of the first 4-5 feet of the droppin, so that you're skiing directly on wood. you don't even need to cut the turf just let it hang down through the wooden rungs to see if it works. You will have lots of speed in the beginning but unable to edge at all.

That's the quick fix. If that doesn't work...make it steeper, however when you do that, you will have to adjust the transition just a little. If you have to make the drop a little shorter to accommodate the tranny that's ok.

If all else fails

-soap and water

-construction fence on the drop

-make your platform 1-2 feet higher

Well im sure going to be on the hunt for construction.

And special thanks for the very detailed response man very helpful thanks for taking the time.

I cant wait to get this all dialed in :)

Plastic lattice would work well too.

It's like $18 for a 4 x 8 sheet at home depot. It's very fast. I would Use it down the slope of your dropin to the tranny and then I would use construction fence for the lip. The lattice is not good for the lip because it is hard to grip on and it tends to break off when you pop.

i wouldn't recommend this unless you need speed BAD. i have tried fence on my lip and i like it better without it (not enough grip), i think everything other then the jump section should have lattice or construction fence.

IMO

Thanks man i ended up buying latice yesterday when i was at lowes but now i wont have time to hit it till this weekend hopefully that latice will help, the shit is pretty slippery.

Almost every drop in needs something besides turf to make it fast. I use construction fencing that it double layered over my turf and then wet it with a hose. I also wax my skis and rail before every sesh and soap the drop in with a giant thing of hand soap. My drop is around 7 feet high and that gives me enough speed to hit a 21 foot rail. Just try some of those in addition to your lattice and you will have a ton of speed.

Alright man. your transition looks fine to me, your issue is that your not getting enough speed on the drop. To fix that you could do what everyone else has said (construction fence, lattice). But this is your best solution without modifying your setup too much. This is what i did on my set up, granite, mine is 8 feet tall. But what i did was made the down ramp a ladder style. I put turf around the "rungs" of it so i wasn't skiing on the wood. For the rungs i used just simple 2by4's. I turned the "rungs" so that i was skiing on the thin part of the wood. What this concept does is make it so there is much less friction. Just make use to end the rungs a few feet before your transition so you don't catch an edge. Anyways, this will cut down on friction and hopefully solve your speed problem. Let me know if you try this. I can post up some pics of mine if that will help?

thanks man. the plastic lattice worked wonders. plus god was nice and brought us a inch of snow and i was out hitting it all night and everything worked great have to make a bigger box now.

thanks for all the advice everyone
