Looking for a SLR

I'm interested in getting a new camera, preferably a SLR as I've been getting into photography lately and I think that it would be worth it. I'm taking a Photo class now and am using my mom's old point and shoot which really can't compare to the SLR that my aunt has let me borrow on occassion.

I'm trying to find something decent for a beginner, more of an entry level camera is what I think I'm trying to say. I'd like to keep the price down, but still have the camera be decent. I'm not doing this for a business or anything, so it doesn't have to be amazing, but I like photography and would like to take it a little more serious.

obviously, this thread could end up like the other equipment threads, where everyone just argures their opinion back and forth. but, i'll suggest that you get something like the Nikon N65 or maybe even like was suggested a little higher, the N80. both take about equal quality pictures, but the N80 just has more features. the N65 is discontinued now (i think...) so you can probably find a low priced one on eBay. good luck with the photography thing, it's lots of fun.

To the person who asked, I wanted to go with a regular, not digital. The main reason is that it's cheaper. Maybe somewhere down the road I can consider a dslr, but not right now.

if you planing on geting more lens or bodys down the road then you are going to have to stick with one brand. if i were you i would get one of the canon rebals or a nikon n75. both good cameras for the mony. but it mite be worth you wait to save up some mony for longer and get a better camera...

there are alot of nice 35mm slr cameras out right now for pretty cheap.

canon makes a ton around the $300 - $500 canadian mark.

if your looking to go digital i suggest a fuji finpix s5100 to start. and if your still down with photography move to a canon digital rebel if you concerned about money. if not splurge on something crazy.

check it. i grew up a fuckin screw up, got introduced to the game, got a ounce, and fuckin blew up.

Get an older full manual Nikon.

Lenses are cheap and plentiful. Great quality optics too.

You can find good condition used for pretty cheap.

yeah digital, you can see your image right there, and of course you dont have to spend on film, or developing/chemistry. i hope to get a digital nikon someday so my nikkor lenses will work nicely with it.

Digital SLRs aren't really a price range for beginners.

hell yeah man, i still use my dad's old cam from like 25 years ago. it takes awesome pics. and pentax-k mount for the lenses is still (i think) compatable with some of the new(er) pen tax SLR models.

Canon Elan 7N newer, solid, fast and I could less you mine. haha. Only 2 rolls shot in it.

what...

I would go for a used Nikon or Canon manual camera, so you can get the basics down. Once you learn the fundamentals of photography, move up to a more advanced camera with more automation, (like a Nikon N80)

umm i could possibly sell my canon eos50 atfter i finish my roll of film and get a new battery for it, it comes with a 50mm f.1.8 II lens worth about 100$ i bought that new
