Looking for a room in Vail.

Hey, I just accepted a job at Vail, and now need to find a room/place to live. Employee housing is available, but I've heard that it isn't exactly first class. Just wondering if anyone here has an open room? or knows someone who does?

I'm 26, currently live in Salt Lake City. I Snowboard, and occasionally ski. I'm always down to party, but am past the "college years"

Thanks guys.

I'd strongly encourage avoiding employee housing....its a shitshow, and the accomodations are poor.

Craigslist will be your number one friend.....or try some of the local papers.

Enjoy....Vail rocks.

what job did you get?

and i lived in the River Run employee housing one year...the location isn't quite as convenient (you'll need a car) but the price is awesome at around $400/person including all utilities...also the buildings were built fairly recently so they're all in pretty decent shape and had brand new leather furniture when i lived there (might be starting to get worn out now).

in any event i never really heard a ton of complaints about the place. Timber Ridge is the shithole, that's where all the foreigners and most of the younger guys (18-22) live. it gets destroyed basically every year so that's why they dont bother keeping it up as much. the only plus to that place is it's literally right across the highway from the gondola and has a free bus service to the village like 3-4 times an hour.

I got a park crew job there.

And, I was looking at the River Edge apartments in Avon, just because I'd get my own room, where the River Run apartments, I'd have to share a room.

The shitty part is, I was hoping to be able to use the buses as much as possible, but if I live over in Avon, I'd have to drive.

yeah having my own room my second year was a plus, and we had a really sweet place right across from lionshead in a badass condo complex...but it was $900/month per person, so not exactly cheap.

honestly i probably had more fun sharing a room. it really isnt that bad and you really get the "live to ski" feeling when you're living like that. just a bunch of people crammed into an apartment talking about skiing all day, it's a lot of fun. mind you, im not talking about 30 people in an apartment like how the Argentinians do it.

but yeah, as far as affordable and on the bus route you really have to live in Timber Ridge, and i wouldnt have done that for any amount of money cause it was such a shithole and full of kids with the college freshman mentality of drinking as much cheap booze as possible every single night. unless you get lucky this late in the game youre either going to be living tight in an expensive place or living way off the bus route and sharing a room. finding a perfect scenario is kinda tough if you wait any later that september or october.

dont live with the first people you find in the paper or on craigslist though...maybe not even the 5th roommate you find...i turned down 4 or 5 weirdos and shitty places before i found my roommates last year and they even turned out to be douches.

you know what i mean dude, it's crunch time for finding places so i know youre probably a little desperate, but you still want to be sorta picky so you dont end up living with someone who ruins your season

craigslist and vail daily. try to stay within vail because it will make getting to work 10x easier, especially with the every 20 min bus schedule. I know theres a lot of people still looking for room mates out here. I live in intermountain and love it cuz its sort of far away from the craziness

You're going to have fun on the park crew. i know a few of the guys on it and they know how to have a good time.

you better (help) make the vail park sick this year...sorry i had to add that, im not much help in this thread as i am 16 and live in wildridge

i'd stay at river ridge if you didn't mind sharing, so much closer. unless you want to ski the beav on your days off, avon. only thing that sucks about both those places is that the last bus out of vail is 12, so if your out partying it's no bueno.

try and find somewhere in vail, you'll enjoy it so much more and the buses are free! I lived in avon at the start of last season, I was right across the street from the beav but I worked and skied in vail and ended up moving after about a month. took me 40mins to get to work, hour plus if it was snowing and the bus is expensive.

^ definitely bus time, although I did have a crash on highway 6 once, I swear.. I wasn't driving.

also I suggest living in east vail so you can do east vail laps

^ nah dude, my girlfriend was. hit some black ice before the west vail exit near streamside and slammed into that middle lane guard, lucky we could drive away.

stews car is fucked though on an unrelated note, turbo blew. lucky it was after a-basin closed ;)

got a new whip already! not new, but you know... new. plenty of room for slaybay days, fuckin' stoked! get back out here tze

Found a place to live. So stoked right now. It's in Middle Creek, if anyone knows where that is. So I'm a short bus ride away. Moving in on the 11th. Way pumped.

glad you got a new whip bro. trying to get out there as soon as I can, looking for a job that will sponsor me, can't wait to shred with ya again!
